    Personal Portfolios

After having viewed the contestants personal portfolios (at bravotv.com), I'd have to give the edge to Nora, Kevin and Vanessa. I think that they've created some original designs. The others seem more costume-y or look like period pieces.

I just went through them... I was most impressed with Vanessa's. But I also liked Kevin and Kara's.

Good thinking, Chorita--I didn't even think of looking at the portfolios! *slaps forehead*

So I took a peek and I have to say the designs I liked the best so far are Vanessa's, Kevin's, and Jay's.

Some of the others are so pedestrian! Daniel's designs look like very Charlotte Russe clearance rack. Alexandra's look retro-80s streetwalker (and not in a fun way, either).

Worst for me, though: Wendy's portfolio looks like it's from the House of Hideous Bridesmaid's Gowns.

    My 2, by designer

Wendy - Classic American Design - but it looks like they were made out of Marimekko sheets.

Vanessa - Sopisticated, sexy, with a nod to the Victorian era. (Good photos really make a difference here).

Starr - The Dress is lovely, reminds me of YLS Rive Gauche circa 1984. the shorts outfits look like the chorus line from "42nd Street".

Nora - Interesting, reminds me of Issey Miyake. The Pistures only seem to focus on the pleating details.

Mario - Sexy high slit, low cut black halter dress with colorful lining. Nice but I don't know if it's original.

Kevin - Knubby, strappy, frayed edge jacket is very 80's but still cool. The sheer, shirred top is light and more flattering thn other designs like this I've seen (that horrible top Rebecca Weinberg wore on ATNM comes to mind).
