Re: All Stars 1/12 Show Discussion **Spoilers**

I luv'ed this episode. One of the strongest episodes of Project Runway I have seen in a long, long, long time. Luv'ed the behind the scenes showing the designers relaxing, depressing etc... Hope they keep that up.

Also one of the best runway shows I have seen on Project Runway in a long, long, long time. Still, what was with all the baby bump dresses. Jerrell's for instance. Only a pregnant lady would wear that, the fabric did not flow, it did not flatter, it looked like heavy curtain material or upholstery fabric. Very unflattering. Then I saw Sweet Pea's and Kara's and thought. Oh, no the pressure has gotten to them and the very worst was April's. Out of all the gowns shown hers was the very worst and Rami's didn't look much better.

Mondo - surprised me. Thumbs up.

    Austin - simply elegant

Michael Costello - wow. But the boy has to quit being so paranoid. I agree with April who cares if two people use red and feathers.

    Anthony - it's not pageant

    Mila - expected

Gordana - loved the top, not so much the bottom

Kenley - was sweet and unexpected as far as how she used her polka dots, she also got the romance part of it

I actually really liked all the judges and their observations. I think the hostess is much more straight forward then Heidi, I am wondering how much personality I really want from her. I am also really appreciating the Marie Claire editor as mentor.

Bearcata, I really agree with you about this being one of the very best PR shows and runways in such a long time. PR has been declining in recent years and just not as much fun as it used to be.
Everyone here seems to be on the same page as me, regarding who's looks were good and who's were not.
I did like...and was surprised that I did..was Gordana...I've always thought she had talent but she seems to get so bogged down for so many reasons that her finished product never looks very good or up to her level of talent. But I loved this one. I could see Jean Harlowe wearing it. It had the perfect deco vintage look...yes, the bottom half of a little odd but very much in keeping with that era's style.
Some were very good but the sewing skills often left a lot to be desired.
I can't find anything I like about Kenly...her nasal voice is like fingernails on a blackboard to me and she can be so snotty. I didn't think she should win for this dress but I have to admit it was beautiful, although not fitting for what they asked for. I can't believe I'm saying something nice about that strange woman.
Austin's dress was perfection. It may not have been to everyone's taste but the workmanship was immpecable.
I've pretty much smitten with this guy. He reminds me of a very young Tim Gunn in his own way.

I like the top of Gordana's. It's very 20s and glamorous. Perhaps Michael is channeling April, his nemesis.

Jeans that are colored more lightly down the middle make thighslook bigger..just like the bottom of Gordana's dress. On jeans the idea might be shading or whittling the thighs smaller. But it does not work.

April's gown reminded me of Zulema's equally dismal "Inspiration" dress from season 2, the one that got her (and Tarah) auf'd.

Well, one thing that you can say about April's look besides channeling Zulima, is that her model's hair was styled to directly reflect the bias design of the bodice.

Austin's gown with the 30s glam look is so Austin. I loved the way he worked the collar strap into the arms and down the side of the back. His model has a gorgeous back and he set if off perfectly.

Rami also used the arm straps as part of the back piece only widen it to make a semi-shawl effect. I really like the jewel tone color he chose.

Sweet P has said twice that she has to go for color or it isn't her. Well, color doesn't mean pattern and pattern doesn't mean kitchen curtains. If she had carried her orange bodice all the way down, she might have placed higher than April and her orange Cinderella look.

Mila did a good job with a sophisticated look and couture beading on the bodice. If the slit had stopped just above the knee instead of mid-thigh, I would have liked it even more.

I love the pattern in Mondo's creation, but with the short skirt and long train I don't see Opera goer even though he patterned it after two different operas. The japanese pouch (I don't know the name for it) at her back waist really wouldn't allow her to sit down comfortably to be able to enjoy a lengthy opera. I did love that he styled the hair to reflect the "pouch." Oh, boy, I do love that pattern - so subtle and soft.

Peek-a-boo Michael put together a sophisticated look that could grace a red carpet. I hope all these ladies sitting in a chilly theater have warm wraps to keep their bare backs from freezing while taking in the performance.

I really like the volumn in Kenley's gown, and the color is more appropriate for the venue than orange. The problem would be sitting in a theater seat without spilling over on either side, so I see this as more of a ballgown.

Are you headed for a garden party, Kara? Perhaps one could scale it down for a twelve year old's first opera experience.

Gordana's design kind of freaked me out when the model started down the runway. It looked like she was wearing gauze jodpurs and then when she turned, the gauze covered cutouts didn't match up with her legs. To me, it was very strange.

I'm so glad Anthony's model had such firm breasts as he didn't want to put in cups to hold everything in place. From the extra daring front, he chickened out with the back matching the waist V in front when he could have taken it a bit lower. Somehow I found the back a little frumpy.

Remember when you wore a skirt with a little volume and when you stood from sitting the back had stretched out longer than the front? I've had that experience and Jerell's model took me right back to it. From the front - maternity, from the back...

Overall I really appreciate the effort put into these gowns on such a limited time frame and give kudos to all of them for stepping up to the challenge.

While this was a good episode, this was an insult to couture and one of the reasons I despise this show. ONE day to create an outfit? This is just ridiculous and robs people of their chance to really showcase what they can do. Plus, who likes watching people get basically slavedriven? At least its' not PR Australia - on that one, they had only 8 hours for a similar challenge.

I hated Kenley's design. All I could think of was Barbie or Nicki Minaj as cliche barbie, and anywhere BUT Opera. It looked well put together though and purposeful... but I hate that color pink!

I thought Jerell's looked ok the first time, but now that I look at it again... yikes. The proportion or the feathers, soemthing wrong with those things.

I think if you’re going to have an asymmetrical garment, you need to keep the hairstyle symmetrical to balance it. Also, if you’re going to play with different hues, you need to do it on one section of the dress so that you don’t have competing focal points. Even if the ombre hadn’t been done and the execution had been right, I wouldn’t have liked the style of the dress. The one shoulder is so large and then the other one is missing, and it doesn’t look intentionally. There could have at least been some finishing hem along the cut edge to make it look like it’s supposed to end where it does. Honestly, I don’t know why this wasn’t chosen as the dress with the lowest score. April should have gone home.
I disagree on April but LMAO. This is EXACTLY what happened in an episode of The Simpsons to Marge!!! She totaled her car while she was distracted putting on makeup, which smudged her makeup, she got out and ripped her dress on brambles, it started to rain, which frizzed her hair, she stepped in a puddle or something, and by the time where she got where she needed to be, the bouncer thought she was a witch!

I love reading all the posts here on FORT...after reading some and checking out the runway looks on Bravo site, I often find myself changing my opinion of some of the finished products. It helps me notice things that I overlooked.
After reading some of the posts and taking a really good look, I think others' opinion of Gordana's dress makes perfect sense. I intially liked it, reminding me of old movie stars in the '30's but now I think she would have had something really great if she hadn't put in those see-thru inserts on the skirt. Had she just made it in the same material as the top (and part of the skirt) it would definitely had been wonderful.

Austin and Michael's were my favorites. I thought they were both stunning. I liked Austin's more b/c it was modest. I liked Michael's detail in the neck area.

Reading comments left on PR's Facebook page. A handful of peeps think designing for Miss Piggy is a stupid way to waste time.

Wondering how you all feel. I am looking forward to it.

When Elmo and Cookie Monster visited Top Chef, it became my favorite episode ever.

I don't see this as being much different than dressing Barbie or a four-legged client!
