Re: The Fashion Show vs Project Runway

This was probably the worst season of PR so far. Having said, that, it was twice as good as The Fashion Show.

I love Isaac Mizrahi, but as host and judge on this show I couldn't stand him. He was bitchy, petty, and treated the designers badly. The challenges weren't as interesting, the production values were cheap, and poor Kelly Rowland had no defined role as co-host other than to sit there and nod while Isaac blathered.

The point of the show was making ready-to-wear clothing. ”Real life. Real people. Real fashion.” So what were designers like Merlin, James-Paul and Johnny D doing on the show? They wouldn't know RTW fashion (or real life) if it smacked them in the face. There were so many wrong-headed things about the way the show was set up, I kind of hope there is no second season.

As for PR, besides Bunim-Murray needing to lighten their touch, I think the biggest problem with season 6 was moving the show to LA. That will already be fixed since season 7 has already been filmed back at Parsons in NYC. I didn't care much for this season, but I haven't given up on the show yet.

ITA. And Kelly Rowland was pretty bad as the host(ess) as well. She reiterated everything Isaac said. Even the bye-bye "We just don't buy it" is not as good as PR's sendoff. But I gotta say that this was the worst season of Project Runway. In summary and per the view of the majority here at FORT, move it back to NY and let the regular judges judge.

I expected Ra'mon and Epperson to have done better, if not all the way to the final 3, too. And I would have loved to see Ari and Malvin in more challenges because although they were a wee bit kooky most of the other designers were coming up with blaahhs.

Angel said that she came from an area where HH was not popular, so she had a lot of trouble with the challenge. But Kelly immediately dismissed her excuse, saying that it was preposterous for her to know nothing about HH. I do agree that HH is very popular right now and that people should have at least heard about it, but the way Kelly came down on Angel was as if she thought Angel was stupid. It left a bad taste in my mouth.
I know! If I were to design a HH ensemble, I would have been literal too and have inspiration from HH during the olden days because present HH is just regular clothes now (nothing distinguishable about it). Like when the PR judges criticised Leanne's country music dress because present CM singers just wear regular clothes. You can't design a distinguishable CM ensemble without being literally using denim and western attire. (NOTE: I was refering to female HH style and female CM style)

I'll admit I'm slightly biased for the avant-garde designers, but I enjoyed seeing Chicken Diva do his stuff, Anna looking stressed out but producing beautiful clothes, Danielle giving people evil eye and her wonderful silver dress, Reco's wonderful sewing skills (not to mention him telling off everyone), the cleverness of Jon Paul (did anyone notice the penis print on that Mr. Rodgers sweater he wore to the finale), Lanvingate, and a host of other things. It was a big, glittery mishmash of a mess as it should be; this was the first run and they're still tinkering with it.

Lifetime took a winning show and ruined it.

Agree with all your points! You cant go wrong with a designer named Merlin (the magician). Every reality show is gonna have some faults but for me TFS faults were forgivable and seeing Fern Mallis & Issac MizRo more than made up for everything else. Tim Gunn was the only saving grace on this season of PR.

TFS was ticky=tacky for sure. The characters were over-the-top. But there was some creativity there. I hope PR finds its heart and soul again.

Re: The Fashion Show vs Project Runway

My problem with The Fashion Show was that Isaac was host, mentor and judge, which smacks of conflict to me, and I think that Daniella should have won because she had been the strongest candidate throughout the series.

My problems with the current season of Project Runway, though, are more numerous, ranging from unimaginative challenges (take your best design and make a companion piece - that used to be one team challenge on earlier PR's) and dull contestants to ever-changing judges and including Heidi as a judge (and she was nasty).

So, this year, I guess I enjoyed The Fashion Show more than Project Runway, but I enjoyed all the other seasons of Project Runway more than the one season of The Fashion Show.

For me, the solution would be to move PR back to NYC and auf Heidi for Isaac.

Is anyone going to watch Bravo's latest attempt to replace PR -- Launch My Line? It's on tonight at 11PM EST. I never gave The Fashion Show a chance because I figured PR would be back soon enough, but after being so disappointed in this season of PR, I'm going to try and see what Launch My Line has to offer. Anyone else? Should we start a show thread?
