| Re: Pirate Master - About the show This is at least getting me through the desert time without Survivor, TAR, etc. And I'm still amused by these people who are trying to convince themselves that they ARE pirates. <WARNING: Cute kid story ahead> When my youngest daughter was 4, we happened to go to McDonald's for lunch after their swimming lessons, and there were some guys there that were obviously on a construction crew. One had a bandana on his head, and my daughter looked up at him and as she skipped by him she sang "Annnnnd, there's a pirate!" He started laughing, and we were trying to get her out of there, trying not to let her see us laugh too. That's what I think about everytime I watch this show. </Cute kid story>

| Re: Pirate Master - About the show Looks like PM is moving to Tuesdays 10PM next week. BB 8 trumps PM 1. A sign that there won't be a PM 2? |

| Re: Pirate Master - About the show I guess I'm in the minority but I enjoy this show. Like mom2 says, it helps you get through until the real shows start, lol. I think Jay is sleazy as all get out and I love it! Something about him reminds me of Lex from Survivor and also one of the new hamsters on BB8. I also like Joe Don. I am not sure if he meant for this to happen, but his rich haul at the beginning of the series has helped him avoid the plank thus far. Damn! I wish they had a plank! ![]()

| Re: Pirate Master - About the show How I wanted to like this show, starting with the first ad teasers with the Picton Castle decorated out like a pirate ship; the location, Antigua. For a reality show it had a pedigree like none other starting with the full Mark Burnett Survivor film crew aboard. Then the show and cast unfolded...darn. Having said that I don't know where to place blame. Perhaps this group's chemistry isn't up to Survivor standards: After the second episode I was tempted to place a call to Indianapolis to see if Rupert Boneham (Survivor: Pearl Islands) was available to rescue a reality series in distress. By the third episode Henry Morgan- Blackbeard himself- couldn't save this sinking ship. And speaking of ships, when there is all the magnificent Mark Burnett photography talent on hand couldn't they have done more with the pirate ship? Areas, below deck in particular, needed some high seas Captain's Quarter magic. Back in 2005, a porn crew from the San Fernando Valley went over to St. Petersburg, Florida and filmed on the docked tourist attraction HMS Bounty, telling the city fathers that they were filming a commercial...a commercial with some of the most buxom lasses ever to swab a deck (but I digress.) The end result was the most expensive porn film ever made, Pirates. Juxstaposed alongside this reality series, the accommodations on that movie ship are little short of magnificent: The Captain's Quarters look like the Balmoral Suite on the Queen Mary II!! At best these reality series folks are put up in bunks Paris Hilton wasn't subjected to during her recent incarceration in the Lynwood jail. Scenes simulating the Picton Castle below decks could have (and should have) been shot on a movie set and edited in. I suspect the series post-mortem is beginning even now in the production offices and Mark Burnett's group won't repeat this goof again. It is still a mystery how he came up with a reality series dud given the promising Carribean pirate premise. |

| Re: Pirate Master - About the show I continue to think that one of this program's biggest problems is the challenges themselves. First, there is only one per week, unlike Survivor, where we have both reward and immunity. In addition, on Survivor, where there are team competitions, they are at least on seperate courses. In this show, the competitions are boring, there's only one per episode, the teams can (and have) 'cheated' by following one another. We don't get to see any real bonds or enmity forming, because the team make up has been unstable, changing week to week. While the concept of teams being picked fresh for each competition has some appeal, it's working out poorly, at least in this instance, in the manifestation. So, boring challenges, no sense of crew member's true feelings for each other, is, for me, making for a let-down. Frankly, I don't want to see this show back. I wouldn't mind a totally different incarnation, more thoroughly thought out and tested by Mark Burnett and his production staff. Slap a different name on it, too, while they are at it. I'm wondering, also, as an ancilliary thought, if Mark Burnett hasn't lost his sense of what plays in Peoria, so to speak. The last Survivor with the cushy camp, the last Apprentice, with it's outdoor camp - it all not only seems to be running together, it's indicative that MB needs to get back to the basics that made his shows compelling in the first place.

![]() I think the chemistry problem has to do with the "Me Generation." A bunch of bores, similar to what is happening on Big Brother. Will it be the death knell for Reality TV? | |
