Re: My Big Fat Fabulous Life (TLC)

Is there a thread for "I Am Jazz"? Not that I want one - or intend to watch this - but, just to vent, every time they show the opening clip to the new season with her saying, "I am a girl," I just want to say, "No; you're not." She's taking hormones to block male puberty; as of now, that is all. And she has really great hair! There are lots of shows with no threads on this site, but maybe just not enough interest to keep one going. Only a handful of people comment on even the most popular shows.

I definitely get a "stage mother" vibe from the mother; she's enjoying the attention (and now money) perhaps a little too much. But the fact remains that Jazz is trangender -- she could open the show by saying "I am transgender" -- but is still a biological boy, not a girl, so... Whatever! "Living this way" doesn't make the sister wives "better," either (maybe bitter), so you can't put too much stock in TLC openings.

Was my thread moved here? I am confused, LOL.

Re: dating, Jazz herself has said that she doesn't know to which gender she's attracted.

I'm not the only one who's confused, apparently!

This is the thread for the show. I'm with you, I really don't understand the whole transgender thing but whatever!

    Re: I Am Jazz

The show, Jazz and her parents have done a good job at explaining the issue. They have had her doctor on air as well as some other people who share her journey. I know that I learned a lot as a result.

Not only is Jazz a girl, imo, but I have trouble even imaging that she isn't a girl. I hope the strain of the show isn't too much though. It's a lot to have your life threatened and live under such scrutiny, though, according to her, she had that even before she got a tv show.

How is "she" anatomically and physiologically a girl, or are we just dismissing the dual sciences of anatomy and physiology altogether now? It's so hard to keep up...

I'm no expert, but I do watch a lot about it on tv and online. I've followed Caitlyn Jenner's story. I also have watched documentaries for years about gender identity issues. There is a transgender surgeon named Dr. Marcie Bowers who is one of the top in the country on reassignment surgery. I'm familiar with her journey.

I've also kept abreast of the happenings in my state (NC) regarding HB2. (Laws directed at transgender individuals.) Here's an article about a group of pediatric Endocrinologists who sent the Governor a letter about it. Determining gender is not as simple as it sounds. This is what they said. So, I think much more will come to light as medical science catches up and educates the public.

So-called experts aside, if "she" weren't a biological male, "she" wouldn't have to take male hormone (androgen) blocking drugs to prevent male puberty and then female hormone (estrogen) drugs to promote female development. Not to even mention requiring surgery to remove male parts and add female parts. But at any rate!

Certainly, there are different opinions about the issue, but this show really captures the life of Jazz and her family. She sure is a quality person from what I have seen so far. I hope to catch the new season.

    Re: I Am Jazz

I don't consider it a matter of "opinion"; it's a simple fact that Jazz is a biological male... Beyond that, you can say whatever you like, including that "she" is a quality person and even pretty. But I'll argue that "she" is not a girl, and it's disingenuous - or perhaps just delusional - to open the show that way.
