    Married At First Sight

Tuesday evenings on the FYI, network.

This show is based off a show done in Denmark. A sociologist, sexologist. Psychologist and spiritualist pair up six singles who meet for the first time at their wedding. The show follows them for five weeks to see if they decide to stay married.

I LOVE this show! I thought I would hate it, and only watched it cause there was nothing else on, and by the end of the 1st episode I was really intrigued --- By the end of the 2nd episode I was really interested in the couples, and now, by the end of the 3rd episode, I'm really loving the show!

I have just watched tge first episode and I have to ask why Jason was chosen for the show in the first place
He is caring for his mother who has stage 4 cancer, works odd hours and spends the rest of his time training in the gym, even he says he has a lot going on that it maybe hard to fit a marriage in
I have to wonder about his motives for going on the show and the experts motives in choosing him

Just a little insight-my boyfriend is a firefighter, and while each department has different cycles, he does 24 on, 48 off. The EMTs are on a different schedule since they work 12 hour shifts, but they all also have to take what are called "Kelly" days every cycle, essentially mandatory paid time off. The firefighters, if they take a full shift off, have 5 full days away from the hall. I think the paramedics, if they take a rotation off, have something like 12 days off. Mine actually works a second job on his days off because he says he'll be bored otherwise, and a lot of the other people on the department here do that as well, and they still have a good bit more free time than your average person. I'd guess even if Jason works out four hours a day on his days off, he'd still have a good bit of free time. I'm not saying his schedule isn't busy what with caring for his mother too, but his 'odd hours' probably make it easier to fit in a lot of different things than a typical 9-5 would.

As for his motivations, as someone who's so driven and focused in his life, he may just see the singles bar scene as a waste of time. It's hard to fit a marriage in, but I guess it's probably like kids-there's no perfect time, so you have to make the time. At least a guy like him knows exactly what he wants in life instead of being wishy washy like a lot of guys around his age.

I'm watching too. I didn't expect much from it, but it's done well. It's interesting to see how the various individuals and couples are handling the various issues (sex, compromising, etc.).

    Thanks for starting this thread!

I'm watching too. I stumbled upon a repeat of episode 1 by chance and then watched the second episode OnDemand to catch up before the Honeymoon episode aired. I've been pleasantly surprised.

I did feel sorry for Doug. Jamie was pretty awful during the wedding and after too. She specifically said that looks don't matter to her, but it was clear she was hoping for a male model. I found her disappointment especially puzzling since she was gung ho about Ben Flajnik when she was on The Bachelor. Like he's so great looking I do think Doug is better looking with a bit of scruff and he's just an all-around good guy. I think the experts did a great job matching them. I was happy to see her coming around to him and admitting that he had all of the qualities she asked for. I hope she can open herself up more and not sabotage the relationship.

I'm not really sold on Monet and Vaughan, even though the experts said they were the most compatible of the three couples. It seems like they have more sexual chemistry than relationship potential. As soon as (was it?) Dr. Pepper came to talk to him at his home and he instantly told her to take her shoes off before she walked into his apartment, I had a feeling he'd be trouble. Very controlling. It was just the way he said it. It seems to me that he's expecting Monet to just KNOW what he wants without him having to say it. I had to laugh when he commented about how long they've known each other and meant that it was long enough that they should be able to communicate better and she laughed, reminding him that they'd known each other for like SIX days. I think he's being very unrealistic.

I think they did a good job matching Jason and Cortney too. I think they're very sweet together, but they've got an awful lot of challenges to deal with off the bat, including work schedules and his mother's illness.

If you need to catch up, FYI is airing all the episodes from the beginning starting at 5pm Central. I personally have already watched them all over and over but am still planning to tune in. 😳. So ashamed that I'm totally addicted!

I think I'm falling for Doug! What patience that man has. Jamie's tepid response had to have hurt him, but he didn't pout about it or push her. He's someone who will hang in there for the long term.

    Re: Married At First Sight

Did anyone else watch last night?

Funny that the couple that seemed doomed at the beginning - Jamie and Doug - may be the most likely to stay together. After such a bad start, I'm amazed at how it's turned around. Jamie really has opened up to Doug and BOY, has he been patient! I really hope they make it. They seem like a really good match.

The couple the experts said were the most compatible - Monet and Vaughn - seem the most likely to split up. Vaughn is such a control freak. It's like nothing Monet does will make him happy. They've known each other for like 10 days at this point and he's expecting her to know exactly what he wants at every moment. No wonder he's single. Who could deal with that? That moment when he picked the dog hair off his shirt? UGH. I dated a guy that - everything has to be SUPER clean at all times - and the relationship didn't last long. My whole LIFE is covered in cat hair!

I think Jamie/Doug and Cortney/Jason were very smart to get new apartments. I thought all of the couples did well at compromising about where they'd live, but I think it may make things harder on V & M since he's sharing her space vs. their space.

Anyone know how many episodes there are? The app I use to keep track of TV shows just has a "TBA" for the next episode and no other episodes listed. I couldn't find anything on the official website either.

    Re: Married At First Sight

I swear the site used to have all of the titles of the episodes on the main page, but those are gone. I think it is something like nine episodes not counting the casting special?

I'm so happy to see a thread here. This has become my new summer obsession, so I'm sadly excited to talk the ear off of anyone that will listen, including my poor husband. Who, wouldn't know Janie or Courtney if he tripped over them!
