YES! That was it. I almost deleted the recording when I saw her thinking I had already watched. I like this show, I think. If this sees another season contestants will be smarter in the pantry. Need garlic, grab some garlic powder, too. Need bread, make sure you have a back up starch, even pasta or bisquick (if it is even there). Need ground beef, grab some ground turkey, too or any other meat.

And above all do not come across as cocky, confident or abrasive in anyway and this goes for behind the scenes when they are waiting to tape. Underestimate your experience, too. Don't be the guy/girl who everyone wants to knock out. BUT be all that in the interview process!

If the chef who crisped chicken skin had used that and made a traditional nacho topping she would have stayed and may have been praised. Great idea. But had she remembered them (in oven) those toppings were not traditional. Bacon? Nah. So there is that.

I would always grab bread in the kitchen because it is versatile. The kitchen is not always fully stocked though.

I agree about the store room. I would definitely grab basics every time. I think the chicken skin was a good idea.

I like that this show is all for fun; there is no large cash prize. They get some exposure but I am not sure if anyone watching retains much about who they are and where they work.

What I have learned so far:

Don't waste your money on anything to do with chopping/cutting. There are things in the kitchen that will work.
Gather as many starch items you can.
Grab strong tasting spices to cover some junk you may be given.
Get celery, it can dilute salty processed food you may get.
If you don't bid on something the others may think you can work with it. They will target the person furiously bidding against them.

Also, keep your head down and don't trash talk. That seems to be the easiest way to put a target on your back.

I am curious what would happen if none of the chefs bid on anything?

The one with the best dishes would win. Or the best final dish and just not the worst on the way there.

This is more about being smart in spending your money than cooking.
