Maybe the Million Moms would like it better if the survivalists wore a banana hammock and a bikini, lol!

Actually now that I think about it, why don't they just have a random pairing of teammates that could also be 2 males or 2 females? The nude male and female casting is designed for shock factor - to make us wonder if they will hook up. Even though, as you say Bearcata they are too busy trying to survive. Not to mention their breath stinks, they have BO and are all in all not looking their best!

Also, it seems like they should get a prize at the end of the 21 days. Are they getting paid to do the show? It is 3 weeks of their time after all.

The participants are getting a prize, they get a trip to an exotic location, get to be on TV and have an adventure of a lifetime.

Are these folks nuts? After seeing the conditions these folks are going through sex is not a priority. Food, clean water and fire are the priority. Have any of these women actually watched this show? If they think Naked and Afraid is "soft porn" I don't think I want to know what they think is the "hard core" variety.
You have got to be kidding! I think the last thing these people are thinking about is sex.

I tried this show and found I didn't enjoy it enough to keep watching, and that was NOT because of the nudity. My point is simple that if you don't like it or any other show for whatever reason, don't watch it and don't try to control what other people watch. I agree that the last thing on these contestants' minds would be sex.

Censorship is far more dangerous than a couple of naked bodies, IMO.

Another disappointing episode. This time, neither contestant made it the full 21 days. I was shocked that the girl (Julie) did so poorly when she's a survival instructor. And then to hear that she went back to teaching after having to quit the show! And the guy (Puma) was stupid to drink groundwater thinking it would be safe. I don't know where he got the idea it would be pure. There can be all kinds of contaminates in soil and it will permeate any water that passes through it.

This show would be great if they did a better job of selecting contestants. People who really know how to survive in the wild should be able to thrive, not just barely get by. Maybe part of the problem is they don't give them enough tools. Instead of having them each pick one item to help them, perhaps they should have a few standard items given to them, like a pot to cook water in, a machete, sandals or materials to make shoes, and a buff they can use either to cover themselves or use as a bag. Perhaps a little tube of neosporin or benadryll could be included for their bug bites.

I don't see this show lasting another season if they don't select better contestants.

He drank water right out of the creek before they found the groundwater. She drank the groundwater and did not get sick. I kind of thought he got sick from drinking the unfiltered / unboiled water from the creek.

Regardless, I do think it's interesting that the women have tended to do better than the men. Testosterone poisoning raises its ugly head again. ;-)

Re: Naked and Afraid - Discovery Channel

What botherfed me about Julie, my initial read on her, was that physically she did not seem prepared for this challenge. The previous female contestants appeared much more fit, had toned upper bodies. Julie comes across more as an intellectual. A professor who knows the theory, can do demos while surrounded by modern comforts, but has not really tested her skills at all in the wild and perhaps doing it in Borneo was not the best place to start. I was surprised since she last 18 days while not go the full 21? But it was a great example of how being naked and alone without fire, food and water can really affect your spirit, your moral. Perhaps if she didn't try to intellectualize everything she might have been in a better place to survive the entire experience.

Ah, Puma, another ego bites the dust. While I am glad he survived the only one that can be blamed is himself. I give him mucho kudos for not snapping and yelling at his female companion; first male to accomplish that.

Did like the personal items, machete and cooking pot. I liked that cooking pot much better than the pot used in the Tanzania episode.

I wonder if the teams automatically had a machete or cutting tool, a fire starter and a pot, how successfully would they be. Those three items seem to be the basic necessities that the team need and with their survival skills they should be OK.

I just finished reading Julie's bio on the Discovery Channel website and I found out that there are primitive skills conferences you can attend to learn all sorts of "primitive skills". Check out: Backtracks, LLC

I would be interested to see if any of Natgeo's Doomsday Bunkers folks have any of this type of skillset?

I watched my first episode and kind of enjoyed it. It's true that they need more tools. Not having any clothes it rather ridiculous, IMO. With clothes they would have a better chance as they could use their clothing for various task and avoid some bug bites.

Why was there so little food in that area? No fish, no fruit, ??? Why?

I missed the very first part. I thought they at least would get a big pile of money if they made it to point B as shown on that map. I think that $50,000.-$100,000. would be fair.
