Re: Naked and Afraid - Discovery Channel

I have noticed initially the males are very down on the females knowing anything and being capable of providing for themselves. Then the male gets injured and is a whinny baby insulting and being just rude to his teammate then at the end they realized that their female teammate was actually pretty helpful. I wonder how cultural a reaction this is or more biological? I wonder if this happened with folks from other cultures how would they react? How much would their cultural upbringing effect how folks survive or how they treat their partners?

Wow this last guy was sooooo red. I am surprised he made it through...of course with the help of his partner. Kudos to this last couple! I really enjoyed this last epi and could almost feel those high mileage winds.

Yes he was! I was wondering if they gave him some aloe or other meds behind the scenes for that burn. It looked so painful!

This girl was so capable. One problem I have is when DVRing this show it always cuts off the last 2 minutes where they are given their new survival scores. The girl was pretty high from the outset, 8.0 I believe and I was wondering if they raised it at the end. She must be the highest scoring contestant yet?

They raised her score from 8.0 to 8.2.

Re: Naked and Afraid - Discovery Channel

I just watched last week's episode online. I don't know if it was that the setting seemed familiar (like from Survivor) or what, but it was less daunting to WATCH. Ha. I have no doubt it was just as daunting to try surviving there. Cripes, I've forgotten her name already ... anyway, she had knowledge of surviving in a environment very similar. She was able to find plants with which she was familiar, an advantage others have not enjoyed previously.

I guess they got enough fresh water in the last few days there. The one with wind chill of 41F raised my eyebrows. That had to suck badly! Kind of wonder if their timing had been slightly different, if the horrible storms had arrive at mid-point, after they'd scavenged water bottles and whatnot, they could have collected fresh water for a large portion of the remaining time. And being out there 21 days, chances are you'd get your period, but then she turns out to be one of the people who is highly debilitated by cramps. Passing out?!? Yikes, I never had that kind of problem (although my mother reported that she did).

I think she got a score of 8.4. I would have paid closer attention if I'd realized anyone was wondering. Jonathon went up too, about 4 points also. Yeah, he was kind of whiny, but I don't think he was as bad as the first nor second (who was also marginally better than the first guy). It was kind of abrupt though, how he went from carping and complaining to waking up and realizing how much his partner knew and was contributing. I don't see them as any kind of love match, but it would be interesting to know if they keep in touch. I'd also like to see all the women from this series get together and have an adventure. But they should be allowed clothes. ;-)

I don't know if other cultures have people who are "into survival challenges". It would be interesting to watch though. And what about experts in their own environment (the San -- bushman people)? How would they fare where they didn't know any of the flora or fauna? I'd watch.

Wow, so here we have yet another guy that is a total wimp while the girl saves the day! That is 4 out of 4 so far on this show. I'm seeing a trend...

I was really surprised they went after that Cayman/gator. And why did the guy choose goggles as his survival item? Fire starter would have been more useful.

I was looking at the online comments. Many people are saying Alison (Maldives with sunburned Jonathan) and Laura (Panama with wannabe Clint) ought to team up and have their own show. I'd probably watch.

Yep, goggles. And he didn't want to get in the water. #disconnect

One Million Moms wants to boycott Naked and Afraid because they say it is "soft porn".

Are these folks nuts? After seeing the conditions these folks are going through sex is not a priority. Food, clean water and fire are the priority. Have any of these women actually watched this show? If they think Naked and Afraid is "soft porn" I don't think I want to know what they think is the "hard core" variety.

I found Clint rather confusing. He teaches survival skills but has never been anywhere to actually test his knowledge and he refuses to go into the jungle, refuses to go into the water and wants to shelter on the beach that gets flooded every night.

I don't think the producers intended to show that all the males are overly prideful of their skill sets and all have egos the size of a football field but they didn't have any successes to back up their skill sets but all managed to yell at their female companions and complaining that they were useless and unfocused and yet the females inevitably kept both alive. No I don't think they intended this at all but some how they succeeded in showing it.
