    Re: America Ninja Warrior

My heart broke for Flip Rodriguez last night when he fell on the Jumping Spider. A lot of contestants fail on that obstacle so he has nothing to be ashamed of. Still, I know it must be hard for a returning Ninja Warrior competitor to go out on an obstacle he's completed in the past.

I was really surprised that the mountain-climber (Isaac Caldiero) went out on the Jumping Spider. I've never seen anybody have as much trouble as he did getting traction inside the Jumping Spider. Usually once a person makes it in the spider, they're able to get through it. I think one of the commentors was right and it was his shoes that were causing him problems. Hopefully next year he wears shoes with better grip.

Here are the finishers of Stage 1. I got this from Wikipedia:

Stage 1 Finishers / Competitor / Time Left
    1. Elet Hall 00:39.25
    2. Lorin Ball 00:38.62
    3. James McGraph 00:38.47
    4. Joe Moravsky 00:36.23
    5. Brent Steffensen 00:30.63
    6. Jesse La Flair 00:26.97
    7. Josh Cook 00:26.03
    8. Chris Romrell 00:24.86
    9. William Brown 00:22.73
    10. Paul Kasmir 00:23.54
    11. Drew Drechsel 00:21.63
    12. Jamie Rahn 00:19.26
    13. Casey Finley 00:18.90
    14. Noah Kaufman 00:14.10
    15. Travis Rosen 00:13.50
    16. Yev Kouchnir 00.09.67
    17. Kyle Sinacori 00:07.60
    18. Andres De La Rosa 00:07.60
    19. Brian Arnold 00.03.64
    20. Travis Weinand 00:02.30
    21. Idoko Abuh 00:01.98

BTW, I wish we could get the title of this thread fixed. It's "American Ninja Warrior", not "America Ninja Warrior".

It looked like one of the other rock climbers had similar problems with the Jumping Spider, although he made it through. One guy I noticed had on what looked like off-the-rack athletic shoes, and he did fine on it. Yep, gotta have traction on those plexiglass walls!

Heartbreaking yes . . . but rules are what makes a competition a competition. I understand and agree with the elimination.
To better explain my stance on the +/- half second - those buzzers are not set to where you can easily press down on them from any angle. Most competitions I know of have the single second to prevent a DQ because of an issue with the buzzer's shape. It's a margin of error.

No way am I advocating 5 seconds or a ludicrous 20 minutes... but less than a second and worse, less than HALF a second with a buzzer that does have issues is not fair quite honestly. They should factor in here margin of device error.

I really felt for Flip. You could tell just how devastated he was, but alot of people were going out on it. Isaac surprised me. He was my pick to possibly go all the way.

I really hope somebody conquers the mountain this year, but at the same time, if that happens I kinda worry for this show's future.

I am not too worried - there is enough elegance and athleticism in this one that folks will still be drawn to compete and show it on TV. They would have to make it bigger and better though.

That all said - we may see someone attempt it this year, but with 6 folks already advancing (and I don't know if any of the others who haven't competed in stage 2 have made it), if the show is just one hour... well, none make it to the final because unless they did one or two fewer obstacles, stage 3 is not a timed event.

I have a feeling no one will. One hour just doesn't seem long enough.
