Interesting that he was much more negative about the others in this BEAST article than he was in his own blogs. I wonder what the timing frame was on writing each of these. Also interesting and true was his perception of the "real" sex addiction expert. The man was totally untelevision so that is why we saw so little of him

ibot2much - I respect your perspective, but I didn't see Duncan as being really negative. Unless I missed something in The Daily Beast article, I only read 4 brief references to his castmates: Kari Ann, James, and the group as a whole.

    1. He mentioned the cast was younger, more "feisty," and "camera-hogging," but I didn't take that to be "bad."

    2. He mentioned Kari Ann's behavioral issues, but also attributed it to David Weintraub's weird control over some people. He had just referenced David before mentioning Kari Ann's behavior. He did mention Kari Ann failing drug tests, but I think he was directing any negativity onto the Producers for allowing her to stay. Also, Duncan has written on his blog about Kara Ann failing drug tests, but it was in another entry, and not in the entry of his impressions of his castmasts.

    3. After learning about David representing all of the women, he had the sick feeling the cast might have had other motives for being on the show. I think that's understandable, and being honest about his initial feelings.

    4. Lastly, he briefly mentioned being disturbed about James and his clothing deal, but didn't say anything beyond that. He had mentioned in his blog that he was initially "galled" by James' deal, too.

Since Duncan only wrote about his impressions of his castmates in the particular blog entry I previously copied/pasted, I don't think you were referring to Duncan being negative towards Dr. Drew. I will say, though, that in the article Duncan was somewhat negative about Dr. Drew knowing very little about sex addiction, and recycling Jill's words, but he did state he was "an astounding drug and alcohol specialist." I don't know - we all see things differently, but to me he really wasn't being negative towards his castmates.

I guess we will have to agree to disagree. He was SO positive in his Blog and the points that you brought up from the BEAST article were what I thought ===negative.

People are accountable for their own addictions. While David might enable and be a bad influence these ladies are making the choice to continue their associations with him and need to be accountable for their own addictions and the choices they are making.

If Kari Ann was using meth while in her sex treatment program she should have been immediately discharged to a different/higher level of care. While I think meaningful treatment can be achieved I believe that many of these people are in need of higher levels of care than than this 28 day treatment model that they are using. Especially as it pertains to drug addiction (when they spend a couple weeks out of the 4 total detoxing which is not meaningful treatment).

So while it worked for him from what I saw on the show his issues did not warrant a higher level of care. And I'm sure they did do some meaningful hard work (or at least the some that are not making a career out of reality shows and who are there just for the camera time). Those who are not still enmeshed in a history of sexual abuse will likely do better in this short term less intensive program than those who have long histories of that abuse that they are still enmeshed in, serious and persistent mental illness, traumatic brain injury, multiple addictions they are trying to resolve at one time etc.

I find it very difficult, for example, to take next season's celeb rehab seriously with the people they have on (their relationships and level of care etc.).

I read Duncan's Daily Beast article which was pretty much what I expected. I thought Duncan really took the rehab seriously on the show, and he seems to have gained some positive insights from his aftercare as well.

What I didn't expect were the nasty comments left by readers on that site. My goodness, what a judgmental, unforgiving bunch of poo-poo heads some of them seem to be.
