Re: Jon & Kate Plus Eight Thanks for the link, Bunny. Very interesting to read a firsthand account of a neighbor's experience, one who is clearly very dedicated to his Christian faith and found he needed to make these observations about the Gosselins. Good for him for speaking out, but I wish he (and the other neighbors) would have done it sooner. I hope they'll be just as forthcoming if they have an opportunity to provide input to the PA Dept. of Labor investigation.

Niece said (which I take to be the general of that board)that IF J&K had filmed the 40 episodes for a year or two and banked it for the family's future then there would be less of an outcry. Even the vacations would be okay. But the outcry came when the money went to both of their heads with all of the non stop material items like motorcycles for one and sports cars for two. She said that Kate also has her own sports car (which would not surprise me). It's that kind of stuff that bothers me. NO parent (especially the mother) that has 8 young children needs a sports car or motorcycle. If either parent needs an "out", well, GEEZ they have 26 acres that they can go for a run around. Clear their head and then get back to the reality that THEY created. | |

Remember that episode where they had a misson statemet? They were going to be disciples of Christ and make Christ known? To put family first? To make God the center of their marriage? (crickets chirping)

Re: Jon & Kate Plus Eight The second they decided to go on TV is when they decided to put the money first and their family second. They treated those kids like a commodity right then and there and the Christian community supported and applauded that. They applauded a mother who would travel around the country without all her children in town and who epitomized greed with all the stuff they were acquiring. The reality is if she didn't want the stuff she could have told those same companies to take that stuff directly to charities for kids who could use it or who wanted it. I didn't buy into this whole notion that this family was holier than thou ever and fell away from their value system. I think we're all looking at what their value system actually is and they never fell away from anything. Just their fans fell away from them. I have never watched an episode of this show or any of the other family exploitation shows. I have no desire to. I get enough exposure to this hot mess through all the other media.

Re: Jon & Kate Plus Eight My thoughts are that they did the show because the had to, i.e. it was a way to financial security for their 8 kids. It seems that once it took off - latter part of S1 and then from S2 on - things. More accurately, Kate changed. Jon has been grumpy about the show from the beginning and remains so today. However, he knows its a source of incomed - good income - and he will put up with it for that. I don't slight him (or Kate for that matter, in the least for that perspective). However, I have yet to see Jon turn into an arrogant, rude fame-whore the Kate has. And so far, I haven't heard a single report that he's been otherwise. For now, I lay all this on Kate's door step. She is honestly off her rocker. I don't understand how people can continue to support such a mean and greedy person. My goodness. She leaves a trail whereever she goes.....Her in-laws, neighbors, co-workers, everyone she meets at local stores - and even her own family have turned on her. She is just THAT bad. I don't understand how she still has supporters when people are lining up to tell their stories about what an ass she is. If Jon ever did do or say something to offend Kate, I can only believe that it was in self-defense and much deserved. I hope Jon reigns supreme in the divorce. I wish Kate would leave the country or go somewhere where she isn't plastered all over everything....She is so disgusting. It's just very hard to watch.

What's disturbing is that Kate doesn't seemed to have gained any insight into herself or acknowledge that her behavior can be appalling. You'd think that being in a TV show alone would hold up a big enough mirror that you'd want to fix your flaws. Or when the public is telling you you're acting like a "witch with a capital B" (love that post, BTW), you'd think it would sink in then. Instead she rationalizes, justifies, blames and acts even bitchier, more condescending, self-righteous and selfish. This seems to be a pattern on reality shows that is kind of fascinating. The people most disliked -- I'm thinking of Spencer Pratt or to a lesser degree Vicki Gunvalson -- just get more obnoxious. They're emboldened rather than chastened. We need a psychologist to explain that one.

And now Kate seems single minded about continuing the show no matter what. There are other options for Kate but she can't see them. I personally would like her to go to law school as her kids are going to sue her and Jon someday looking for their cut of the profits of the show.

Re: Jon & Kate Plus Eight I think the problem is for me that there's getting by honestly and doing the best you can do. And then there's living in excess. It appears that this is a case of living in excess. Wants vs. needs. I need a roof over my head. I want an prohibitively expensive house. Many people with multiple children make it just fine and even send their kids to college with out the aid of television. Where I live it's not unusual that there are families with 8-12 kids reasonably close in age and many of those children go to college, make a life for themselves and have very comfortable lives growing up without the help of extra funding from television.
