Re: The Real Housewives of Orange County

Sorry, but I don't think Simon is at all hot. I think he's as vapid and classless as Tamra. So, I guess their match was made in heaven.
Tamra is very jealous and insecure about all of the housewives, especially Gretchen. If you're secure within yourself, you don't denigrate others, like she always does.

But being married at 30 isn't every woman's goal. I used to think Simon was hot but the more they showed of him ruined it for me. He comes off as sort of a wannabe and a dork.

What's also strange is that Gretchen knew Jeff had pancreatic cancer. Like, duh, didn't she know it's terminal? That when he stopped eating, he probably would have but a brief rally, then he'd die? That was crystal clear, even for a casual TV watcher --- the man was dying. And friend Lynne kept saying, oh, just have faith, he'll get better. Not an IQ above the Richter scale between them. I love Gretchen, she's funny and beautiful. But mind-bogglingly dumb.
I don't think it's dumb to have hope. There are new treatments out all the time, there could be the chance of a miracle. I recently had a friend pass away from brain cancer-she and her family knew from the moment that it was diagnosed that it would be almost impossible to beat. Would she stop going to chemo because of that? No, she had a smile on her face to the end, never lost faith that she'd get better. And my uncle was diagnosed with cancer about 6 years ago. He was given at most, 6 months to live. He made it 4 1/2 years past that diagnosis. You can acknowledge something is a longshot without giving up, and I think that's what Gretchen was doing. As for Lynne, would you really tell a friend that it is impossible for her fiancee to survive and just give up faith?

I totally agree. I don't find anything at all attractive about Simon either. I do suppose he and Tamra work as a couple though as he is controlling and she is insecure and needy.

As for Gretchen, she and Jeff's relationship was what it was and I doubt either of them didn't know the motives of the other right from the start.

Re: The Real Housewives of Orange County

While I used to find Simon somewhat attractive, this season has completely ruined that - he's a controlling jerk. And Tamra is beyond jealous of Gretchen, she's wicked bitter. Before Gretchen, Tamra seemed deluded enough to believe that she was seriously hot, but when Gretchen appeared on the scene Tamra was forced to see herself as a sun damaged classless porn star wannabe who definitely can't hold a candle to Newport Barbie Gretchen.

As for Tamra having had more at 30 than Gretchen, didn't Tamra and Simon just celebrate their tenth wedding anniversary? Which would mean that at 30 Tamra was either newly married to Simon or about to marry him, so definitely didn't have what Gretchen has now. And word to the poster that said that for many women, being married isn't the ultimate goal, there are many paths to fulfullment.

Re: The Real Housewives of Orange County

Didn't Gretchen start the whole season saying she wasn't attracted to Jeff? I agree with the above poster that stated both Gretchen and Jeff knew what the other's position on the relationship was and was fine with it. That is why he wanted the mother of his kids with him in the hospital.

We've got mean girls forced together by this show, instead of playing nice and being mature about things some want to pull rank. I would love for the host of the reunion show to grow some and ask the REAL questions we have, instead of the fluff ones they come up with.

Yes, you are right - hope is a good thing; to some degree it promotes well being, and it's possibly palliative for both the family and the patient. Pancreatic cancer is one of the biggest killer cancers; survival rates are positively dismal, now up to something like 4.7 for five years. And those are painfully sick people as they move toward death-- it's not five years of relatively normal existence. I have more experience with this than I really ever wanted. IMHO the Gretchen person should have done a little homework. I don't think Lynne had any business telling her it would - or would not- be "just fine". She could have simply comforted her "friend". Ah, well, we differ on this...

I thought Jeff had leukemia, not pancreatic cancer.

I thought so, too. In addition, part of the reason Lynne was so supportive of Gretchen about the whole cancer thing with Jeff is that Lynne previously stated her husband had cancer awhile back and got through it, so she would tell Gretchen his story to give her hope that it could happen for Jeff, too.

Re: The Real Housewives of Orange County

You all are correct that Jeff had lukemia and not pancreatic cancer. I'm not aware of any form of cancer with a 100% mortality rate. Without that, there is reason for anyone facing it either themselves or with a loved one to have hope. Even in the gravest of circumstances there ARE cases of survivors.

As for Gretchen knowing what she was getting in to -- when she met Jeff, he was heatlthy and fine. It was not long after they got together that he was diagnosed. But she also didn't meet him saying "Hi, I have lukemia. You want to get married?" So she met a man she was attracted to for whatever reason. She fell in love. He was diagnosed with cancer. She stuck with him. I think there is good reason to think that Jeff's money was a key reason Gretchen was attracted to him initially. But the fact that when his life took a turn to being in the hospital for 2 months, she was by his side instead of saying "This is too hard and I can get any man I want" says a lot that is good about her.
