What a way to ruin my Christmas morning! I think if I had my choice between Vicky's book & a Chia Pet I want the Chia Pet.

What are the odds that next Christmas this will be a best seller from the Dollar Tree?

Dollar Tree? I think you give her too much credit. I was thinking more along the lines of the local .05 and .10 (five and dime) or the 99 Cent store at the MOST!

Re: The Real Housewives of Orange County

‘Housewives’ star not alone, short sales up 63%
November 11th, 2009 by Jeff Collins

Short sales — getting the bank to help sell a troubled home before foreclosure — isn’t just for TV personalities like Tamra Barney, one of cable TV’s “Real Housewives of Orange County.”

We’re reporting that Barney’s family home in Ladera Ranch is in escrow as a short sale. It was listed for $1.149 million.

In fact, short sales are up countywide. Figures from the Southern California Multiple Listing Service show that the usually difficult short sale, or sale of a home for less than is owed on its mortgages, has had an almost uninterrupted climb this year.

A rise in short sales may account for increased home transactions at a time when they’re usually falling. Sales of all homes increased from August to September and early October figures show that sales may have been up in that month, too. Sales usually begin to taper off after August.

DataQuick analyst Andrew LePage believes that September and October sales bumps may be due to an increase in summer short sales, which take longer to close because a lender’s approval is required.

SoCal MLS began tracking distressed property sales this year, including short sales.

Re: The Real Housewives of Orange County

I know there's a lot of anti Vickie sentiment here, and with good reason, but you do have to give her credit for being a good business woman. If you sell insurance you might want to read her book. Her kids actually seem to be turning out alright as well. While I have in the past enjoyed watching the show, they all seem to be getting ickier me these days, not just Vickie. I'm about done with it.

By being on a tv show and trying to portray himself in certain ways he invites public scrutiny as does Gretchen.

Bunny,
Thanks for posting about Vicki's book.
I, too, was rolling on the floor with her comment about the inspirational life.

Re: The Real Housewives of Orange County

Please don't throw rocks my way, just speaking my mind.

I think it is a crime for all the "former spouses" as well as their families who didn't sign up for these types of reality shows who are probably left to deal with the family by offering countless hours of support while trying to help their child cope with the media, friends, etc. Drug through the Reality show world mud has to be hard on these teens and young ones. After all, they didn't sign up for the show - it was their egotistical fame searching parents quest for notoriety who either didn't care or had no idea what types of effects it would have on their kids. I'd like to see Dateline, or a 20/20 investigative type outlet interview all the "former" spouses, and their families since so many were thrown under the bus on national TV by these maniacs who are coming out of the woodwork missing a few tools out of their sheds.

I think we have all witnessed at some point many, if not the majority of the Housewives taking turns speaking badly about their former spouse on the shows and it’s not only a shame, but a cop out. I'll bet it's the non TV side of the family that tries to help their loved ones cope and make sense of the madness that comes with reality TV territory. These kids have opinions and are extremely embarrassed by their TV parent's trashy behavior. I think it's a total lack of good judgment for those who have kids to sign up for this show and criminal for allowing them to be filmed. It was fun while it lasted but as time goes on and the reality is bursting from the Housewives closets, both past and present, I really do wonder about the kids - they must be mortified.

I think something should be done about this to prevent these reality hungry show people from saying whatever comes to mind since so far, and what we have all witnessed, the Housewives have a hay day by blaming their former spouse for all their problems that for the most part, involves $$$$$$. I think it's their way of getting back at their former spouse, or someone they can place blame as to why their world is soooooooo unfair. IMO, it's not cool to use a reality show platform to slander an ex wife or husband since they can't defend themselves. There's a reason why there are so many divorces between the Housewives shows and I would really like to hear from the other side especially after seeing the unbelievable, irrational, and idiotic behavior that is coming out about most of the Housewives (real) lives.

I agree with much of what you said Oompaloopa, and I wanted to add my two cents specifically about the reality TV participants themselves -- there's a common denominator in the personalities of those people who sign up for, not only reality shows, but dating shows, talk shows (all the way from Jerry Springer and Maury Povich to the milder shows like Dr. Phil), and maybe even, to some extent, quiz shows and the like. Did you ever notice that very, very few of these people seem to be camera shy, or embarassed, or uncomfortable about being on TV? No, they're more likely to be publicity seekers. What kind of personality allows a camera to follow them 24/7 to videotape their most intimate moments, or to discuss their most intimate problems/situations with their friends/family in front of millions of people? It is no wonder that these types of people would also be the same types of people who would be guilty of throwing their exes and others in their lives under the bus! However "staged" the scenes are, this is still their real life, and although it's great entertainment for the viewing public to be able to see all of this, their friends/family are left to deal with the fall-out of their fame-whorish behavior.

Re: The Real Housewives of Orange County

I did a quick search on both Amazon and Barnes and Noble and didn't see Vicki's book listed. Even if it's not officially out yet, if they are stocking it, you would be able to pre-order.

I cannot imagine agreeing to be a guest on ANY TV show. The thought makes me cringe. And to appear on-camera with a real problem like people do on Dr. Phil or other shows is mind-boggling to me.
