I Survived a Japanese Game Show

I notice the original topic for this is gone now, because of the re-org of the "Other TV" section.

I thought it worth creating a new one because of this news:

ABC falls for 'Game Show' - Entertainment News, TV News, Media - Variety

ABC falls for 'Game Show'
Network orders more 'Japanese'
By CYNTHIA LITTLETON

ABC is up for a second round of "I Survived a Japanese Game Show."

Alphabet has ordered 10 more segs of the stunt-oriented reality skein from A. Smith and Co. It’s targeted for a summer run. "Game Show" bowed on the net this past summer to decent ratings, though it was eclipsed by the strong perf of its skedmate "Wipeout."

Gamer takes contestants from the U.S. to Japan to tackle a series of goofy challenges in pursuit of a $250,000 grand prize.

"Game Show" is exec produced by A. Smith’s Arthur Smith, Kent Weed and Andrew Scheer. Shingle’s growing portfolio of nonscripted skeins includes Fox’s "Kitchen Nightmares," TLC’s "Trading Spaces" and the Jesse Ventura-hosted project in the works at TruTV.

Re: I Survived a Japanese Game Show

Any chance of this being a covered show this season? It was an unexpected gem last year (although to be frank, I don't think many people here discovered it).

On the surface the show is very silly and worthless seeming. But underneath, I often found it to be quite touching, and it also contained a LOT of real worthwhile cultural information about Japan. In between silly (but lets be honest... funny) stuff in the studio, like making them dress in diapers and do various "baby stunts", or put on velcro suits and launch themselves at a target, the show would tour these people around some really interesting parts of Japan and Japanese culture.

Hopefully Season 2 will remember that and keep that stuff in.

It started tonight. My boys love the show, so we will be watching. The games they play are pretty funny.

I'm recording it so I can watch with the kids over the weekend. We loved watching Ninja Warrior & Unbeatable Banzuke together on G4 & we've been looking forward to this show coming back.

Well the first one out is the one you hated - that's unusual! She gave the old, "I didn't come here to make friends" line, and she didn't. She didn't make friends, she got stuck cleaning a subway, and was the first one out! Haha!

Kim crammed a whole lotta hate into one episode! It was great to see her lose! and I'm liking Yari.

Re: I Survived a Japanese Game Show

I'm so bummed this morning that I didn't notice last night that it was premiering. I found last season's show to be so much fun. I love the host. Hope I can find last night's episode online somewhere.
