I thought the SAME thing when I heard Jill say this!

Excellent observation! Jill's teaching Ally that's it's easier to fall head over heels in love with a guy when he's head over heels in love with you. That's why Judge Judy is full of court cases with women suing men. Jill wants to make sure Ally is never in front of Judge Judy!

Yeah, I thought Jill's comment was probably very telling of her first marriage. I wonder what happened with that. We never hear of Ally's biological father.

Totally different subject, but the more I watch Bethenny, the more sad she becomes. She talks SO much about her own father, and she tries to give the impression that she doesn't like him or care much about him, but she so desperately wants his attention and approval. In every episode, she is chatting about her dad, never saying anything nice, really, but then a minute later she is quoting him, or talking about how good he is at what he does, or asking his friends what he says about her or what he thinks about her. It's so incredibly sad. She seems so lost, I feel sorry for her.

I've said this before about Bethenny whining about her dad. Get over it!! She's a grown woman who is obviously successful, good looking and very funny. I'm sorry, but once you leave your parents house you shouldn't go on and on and on about what a horrible childhood you had. Make your own life, learn from past mistakes and get on with it. You get to a certain age where it's just silly to keep going back to that. What good does it do? If she wants to talk about it non-stop, she should see a therapist!

To me, this aspect of Bethenny reflects a woman whose spent years going to a therapist, because going to a therapist is as "in" in her social circle as buying new shoes or parties in the Hamptons. She's been encouraged and molded to explain every aspect of her personality based on things that happened to her earlier in her life, and shows a side that is very self-focused and analytical.

Re: The Real Housewives of New York City

Well, you'd think she'd be tired of talking about it all the time then.

I think, no matter how old you get, you always want the approval of your parents. It sounds to me like that is what Bethenny is missing. It is sad and it shows how much of an impact it still has on her life today. I'm sure we all have things we need to "let go of", but it's not always so easy.

Well, Bethenny must have already committed matricide because Mom doesn't even rate a passing mention.

Yeah, that's true. I think she will always be a neurotic mess until she resolves this issue that she has with her father, either by trying to have some semblance of a relationship with him or working through it and letting it go. She clearly has not done that, and it's sad to see how it basically wrecks her chances of happiness. She works so hard, but it seems like it's all to prove something to her father.

I wonder about the other half of the story. Does he refuse to talk to her? Or is she the one giving him the cold shoulder?

Re: The Real Housewives of New York City

And another question I have about Bethenny is: WHY does she hang out with the guy that is friends with her father? (can't remember his name...is it Lee?) He is a super creepy guy. He bought her lingerie for her birthday?!?! And he said, as she opened it, "Lingerie and heels, what every guy wants". He's gross, and I can't imagine why she hangs out with him all the time. Seems weird to me.
