I'm not a scientist but I do remember this from bio class. Yes, women are born with all their eggs. I don't remember if this results in the eggs "aging" (or getting "stale," as Bethenny's friend so ineloquently put it), or if stronger, more vital eggs are released earlier, leaving less viable ova to be released as a woman ages. I remember learning that instances of Down's Syndrome births increase as a woman ages. This is also the reason amniocentesis is recommended in pregancies for women over age 35.

I keep watching the reruns (why? Not sure why I keep watching this show...repeatedly!) but what I'm giggling at because it's so obnoxious is Alex's voice. Remember when she is talking about networking/meeting people in 'higher and higher social circles' or whatever it was she said exactly? Her voice! She started out that whole thing by saying, 'One thing Simon and I L-O-o-O-v-E is...' the way she says 'love' is so hilarious and obnoxious! Listen for it...
She does it again in that same episode, when Simon is taking her to her birthday 'surprise'...she asks, "Are we going to a s-H-o-O-o-W"? Do you know what I'm talking about? It's TERRIBLE.

LOL, I'm embarrassed that I'm noticing the things I am - because I've seen the episodes a couple of times a piece at this point. I'm painting my living room, and I leave Bravo on while I'm working, glancing over in between dipping my roller into the paint, LOL. I'm glad I found you guys! It's so fun to snark on this show! I love it!

Sadly, yes. We are born with all of the eggs we're ever going to have, and as we age they do become "of lesser quality". But I know plenty of women Bethenny's age (and older) who have become pregnant and had healthy and happy babies!

I know EXACTLY what you mean! I've watched each episode more times than I care to admit. I notice more and more subtleties with each viewing!
I was secretly very sad the past few days when no reruns were being shown!

You're born with all the eggs you're ever gonna have. About the old part - I dunno, but I had a kid at age 41 sooo....

I would probably get yelled at if I said I wished women would rather put a career on hold and have babies instead of the other way around, but I really do think that.

Anyways, I did a paper in college about Downs Syndrome and here are some stats on chances of having a baby with Downs after the age of 35.
