| Re: The Real Housewives of New York City You know it is one thing that these people make my skin crawl, but why did they have to show them in a tropical paradise? It has totally ruined the idea of the beach for me. |

I need to disagree with this. In terms of the number of people who speak French vs. the number who speak Spanish, you are right Spanish is more common. However, Spanish is more geographically isolated --southwestern US, Mexico, central/South America and Spain. French speaking countries are more spread out across the globe. Just to the north of the RHONYC in New York is Quebec, and every Canadien I have ever known can speak french, Quebecois or not. In Europe the french speakers are France, Switzerland, Belgium, Monaco, Luxembourg (OK, some of these countries are tiny). South America's only french speaker is French Guyana. In Africa, most of the northern and western countries are French speaking --almost half the continent speaks french, in fact. Vietnam and Cambodia in Southeast Asia used to be French speaking and there are still be a number of people there who can speak it. My whole point about which is more useful, Spanish or French, is that it really depends on where in the US you live and what continents/countries you would like to visit. For people who want to travel all over the world, French is still incredibly useful. Spanish is a great language, too. I just think that like Mandarin and Cantonese, it is too geographically isolated.

I don't get a "Stepford Wife" vibe at all from any of these women, including Alex. Alex has a career and mind of her own and seems quite capable of many things. I just think she and Simon are both introverts by nature and quite happy in their own little nest. For this, I have no problem with either of them. What I find a smidge creepy is their emphasis on figure, style, and appearance. I can't help but think they are overcompensating for something, e.g. money and looks, when they really don't need to. Still, even on this count, I'm not so bothered by them. We all have insecurities; let this be theirs.

I have no idea why two introverts would bother to impress "the gang" with clothing, tix, etc. Seems a book or two would be more interesting. If the hotel is so dirty and poorly managed, perhaps that reflects his laissez-faire approach to parenting. God forbid he correct anyone. |

I live near Canada, I believe around 67% of Canadians speak only English and only about 17% of the population speak both French and English. Even though I live close, Spanish would be much more helpful to know in the US. Spanish is spoken in almost as many countries as French is and the population comparison is 332 million people who speak Spanish compared to 72 million speaking French. I do agree that it makes more sense to speak the language of the country that you may travel to the most and since A & S are so European, it makes sense for them, I guess. I don't have a problem with A & S wanting their kids to speak French, it is really the way they go about it that bothers me.

Remember how they claimed their clothes were wearable art; and that they weren't investing in Picasso's? That's 1,000 times funnier now! No, you're not investing in anything except your own pathetic egos. I won't argue that certain articles of clothing/accessories (classic pieces) are often a good investment if it's in your budget, but seriously? these ooogley, trendy (?), puketiscious outfits she comes up with (abeted by Michael Jackson's dresser) are just a hot mess. Anyone else love to hear what Christian from Project Runway would say about that Hot Mess Ferocia Tranny?
