Clash of the Choirs: 12/17- 12/20 on NBC

I was surprised there's been no topic for this.

I actually think this might be interesting. It's got human interest up the wazoo, plus Holiday spirit, plus I think it had to have been planned way before the Writer's strike, so it probably wasn't rushed to filming (the non-live parts, I mean--the bulk of the show will apparently be live).

Anyone planning on trying to watch? Four days in a row, several hours a shot, is a lot to commit to, but I plan on at least trying tonight's episode.

The celebs and their choirs are:

Patti LaBelle and her hometown of Philadelphia, PA.
Nick Lachey and his hometown of Cincinnati, OH.
Michael Bolton and his hometown of New Haven, Conn.
Kelly Rowland and her hometown of Houston, Texas
Blake Shelton and his hometown of Oklahoma City OK.

I get the vibe that the show is going not only for a musical contrast, but also a cultural one. I mean I see some serious "white bread" vs. "soul" potential here. Yeah, maybe its politically incorrect to note that, but I'll risk it.

The eliminations are apparently based on phone in voting each night. So yeah, that means that the performances are going to be

I'll be watching. There's not a whole lot to choose from this time of year.

Wow. We get some schmaltzy stuff right off. Livin' In America... Cool!

    KIDDING!!!

Oh, look. It's Maria Whatsername. I guess they couldn't get Samantha Harris.

    Graeter's Ice Cream is GREAT.

Much better than Skyline Chili, which they have much less cause to be proud of.

We also had to have the dramatic "this group made it, this group didn't" routine too.
I like Skyline Chili and Graeter's ice cream.
ETA Note to Nick: Audition 2 new soloists for next week other than the 2 first ones you had.

I guess we'll have to disagree on Skyline. But Graeter's? Yeah. No beating it.

BTW: Unklescott, did you see that hilarious episode of Anthony Bourdain's No Reservations where he went to Skyline Chili? I have to admit, I laughed.

Wait. So the "coaches" get to "judge" (okay, comment on) each OTHER'S choirs? Huh?

Unk, I agree those soloists blew it. Especially the 2nd girl (the white girl).

    Coming up: George Michael? Eeek!

    Nope, didn't see it.
Now we get to see Kelly Rowland's hometown return. I wonder if her first kiss will show up too?
    No, no George Michael please.

I noticed that too. Seems a little odd to me. I missed this last choir's performance. Were they really that good (the "judges" were pouring it on)?
