| Re: Make Me A Supermodel (US) First off, I am not surprised Sarah left tonight. There was nothing to her look that screamed supermodel. Her torso was really long and didn't look good on the runway. Her image was commonplace. Her walk was ordinary. She lacked the X factor. Not only that, her image really wasn't suitable for print, commercial, or runway modeling. She would struggle to find a stronghold in the modeling industry. After watching the show, packs are emerging In my opinion, the bottom 5 models in the competition in no particular order are Dominic, Ben, Katy, Jay, and Aryn. Dominic has a very commonplace look. I can't count the number of models that look like him in catalogs, print ads, and runways. I was hoping they would edge up his hair or something to make him stand out more. His walk isn't as terrible as the judges are saying, but it needs a lot of improvement. However, it is not runway material. He tends to drag his weight down while walking to the point it looks like he has weights on his feet. His walk is slow and stiff. I really haven't seen the bad attitude everyone is mentioning, maybe it is more off camera. Ben also suffers from a commonplace look. He has a shaved head which really limits his looks. When you have no hair, you have to use your face to bring edge and intensity. Unfortunately, in photograhs and walking, he looks like a deer in headlights. I can see the nerves coming through. Granted, he is a prison guard and new to it all, but this is make me a supermodel. You need to start developing into one, and I just don't see it. I thought his walk was stiffer and worse than Dominic's. He has no fluidity when he moves. Katy is not a model. The judges are completely right on this one. There is no market that Katy could fit into. She is not commercial, she is not print, and she definately is not runway. Her lower half is not built like a model and is not in model proportion. When she was wearing a short outfit on the runway, I noticed that her legs and theighs were jiggling and rubbing together. This means that she has a very closed stance walk. This is a huge no in runway. You want the clothes to move and be the forefront and her legs moving up and down distracts from the outfit presentation. A walk needs to be open, not closed and stifled like Katy is doing. Her walk is very stiff and out of place. In my opinion, her photograph was not spectacular and she photographs old. She has no distinguishing features to photograph well and does not inspire the photograph. It is not a coincidence that both photographers in both episodes have said that Katy is one of the weaker models. If you can't take a good photograph, then there's nothing that can help you. Out of the three who would I cut? Katy. Dominic and Ben have commonplace looks, but they can work as a model. Katy has a commonplace look that at the present time could never work as a model. The show is make me a supermodel. I'm sorry to say it just can't happen for Katy. All of the industry professionals have said Katy is one of the weaker ones and that says something. They have years of experience and if they won't book them, then there is little hope for a thriving career. There is a saying in modeling that you are only as good as your booking record. Ayrn has no X-factor. She is exactly like Sarah. Unlike Ben, Dominic, and Katy there are not huge flaws in her photographs or runway walks. However, there is nothing that makes me remember her. Can anyone remember a single thing about Ayrn related to modeling? Models have to be memorable. Ayrn is not. Jay, in a way kind of looks like a young Tyson Beckford. However, his photographs are awful. He has a powerful jawline but has no idea how to use it to his advantage. His smiling photograph in this episode was distracting and all I could think of is bad toothpaste ad. I disagree with the judges and I do not see runway at all in his walk. In my opinion, I do not think he can work as a runway model. Perhaps commercial if he can add some edge and intensity to his look and lose the over exaggerated smile. Unless there is remarkable improvement or someone really starts to decline, I think these five will be the next five gone in some order. Who do I think is gone next? Dominic. The show went out of their way to make him unlikeable and brought up his "attitude" every chance they could. Most viewers judge more on personality and stories than modeling potential or the likelyhood of working in the industry. If it was purely just a modeling competition, they wouldn't tape the interacting of the contestants amongst themselves in the house. Other notables: The next two weakest are Frankie and Casey. Frankie got a little better this week. I think he was smart by doing a diagonal pose in the photograph to stand out from the crowd. However, his image and his runway walk is very feminine. The long hair does not help out with this feminine image. He will have to butch up his walk a bit as it is too loose and a lot of designers do not favor that. Casey suffers from the same thing Aryn has. There is nothing in his photographs and runway walk that is memorable. I do not see runway model in his walk or print model in his look. The thing that saves him from the bottom five in my opinion is the fact that he is just slightly better than a few others in the photograph and walking department. However, there is a huge difference in just getting by and coasting and excelling as a supermodel. He is definately not excelling right now. There are three models that are emerging as leaders of the pack this week. Those models are Perry, Jacki, and Ronnie. First off, I want to say that I believe Ronnie should have won this week. His photograph was amazing. Armani would use that photograph right now in their print campaigns. It was straight out of GQ and dead on. His runway walk is powerful with enough movement and motion to be memorable. All and all, a solid job. He is providing some competition for Perry in the male side of the competition. Perry is definately the front runner for the guys in the judges' opinion and I understand why. He has a strong look that translates very well in photographs. He has to watch his angles though as he has a dimple in his chin that can get distracting if not posed carefully. His runway walk, just like Ronnie's is strong, powerful, and shows off the clothes well. The fact that he can walk even decently with an injured foot is amazing. However, I will say that Perry's look is a little commonplace. I have seen many models in print ads and runways that look like him. If anything is his downfall, it will be the fact that he doesn't stand out in a crowd. Jaqui's attitude is poor and I believe it will be her downfall. Even when she is looking at the judges and interacting, I feel as if she has this know-it-all smugness about her. She has to watch it as designers will pick up on it and will not cast her. However, I will say that she is the one to beat for the females. Her photographs are absolutely stunning and her runway walk is one of the best, if not the best, on the show. She knows how to walk and display the outfits. While a lot of the girls are struggling, she is breaking out and making herself known, which is what you have to do as a model. The other models not mentioned are lumped in the middle. They aren't one of the bottom ones but haven't done anything to make themselves a front runner. This is actually a dangerous place to be in. If they don't make a move soon, they are going to be in trouble and could easily land in the bottom three. When you go on open calls, designers want you to stand out. They want to take notice of you and know that when you are representing them, you will take charge and be known. There is no place for shyness or reservations when you are modeling. If they wait too long to get noticed, they will slip through the cracks. Out of the bunch, I feel as if Holly has the best chance of breaking through and being a front runner. I feel as if she's on the verge of something. Next week looks to be very interesting. Everyone needs to step up their game if they want to either keep their positions or move ahead in their rankings. |

| Re: Make Me A Supermodel (US) Wow. I also thought Katy's picture was fierce, and way better than Jaqui's who looked like an anemic transexual ghost in her photo. That witch-faced judge really has it out for Katy. Funny how they included Katy's answer about who she thinks should be in the bottom 3, trying to portray her like she's talking badly about others. I think they are trying to turn viewers against her. My guess is that she had an overwhelming majority of the vote to stay this past vote and they want to weaken her support if possible. Maybe the judges should realize that some of us are sick of having anorexic stick figures pushed down our throats and would like to see a fierce, normal-sized woman as a successful Supermodel. I can't believe how venemous that one judge is being. I voted for Katy to stay. Though, they're probably going to stick her in the bottom 3 every week unless she gets down to under 100 pounds. I thought the body measurement scene was hilarious. You'd figure they'd have a doctor or at least someone with a medical background there to give them actual medical advice. The lady with the clipboard asked "Is it even safe to loose 3 inches off your 'tits' in" such and such a time? She didn't even know but tries to dispense medical advice: "you're fine where you are, you look great. But don't loose any more weight or next time will tell you to gain some back." How thorough, professional, and medically sound. And to Katy she asked "is it possible to gain that much weight...?" she doesn't even know. Well, what the heck is she doing there if she's not a medical expert of some sort? I don't think she should be asking questions aloud into space. Just write the numbers down on your little chart and keep your mouth shut since you obviously don't know what you're talking about. "You look good...even if your inside are crap health-wise, you look good. And that's what's most important." |

| Re: Make Me A Supermodel (US) Another conflicting bit of advice - on the first episode, the girl with the bob haircut gets criticized for having a hairstyle that limits her look and makes her less versatile. On the second episode they tell all of the contestants that they each need a hairstyle that will make them stand out from the crowd. WTF? The conflicting comments are beginning to border the "Tyra" category of ridiculousness. |

| Re: Make Me A Supermodel (US) I can't tell the difference between Perry and Ben. To me they both look the same (its the sahved head) except Perry does not have the scared deer in headlights looks that Ben does during the catwalk challenge. Come on did you really think they would not make you wear weird clothes. You have to look comfortable while wearing them, that is part of the job. Jaqui and Ronnie were definitely the standouts this episode. I think Ronnie is the one to beat.

| Re: Make Me A Supermodel (US) Quote:
The British voting system worked differently from the US system--Each week, 2 guys and 2 girls would be in the bottom, and then there would be a live runway show with three passes. You could vote for one guy and one girl to stay, eliminating one guy and one girl each week. At the end of the show, there were 4 models left, 2 guys and 2 girls, and then the public just voted them off one by one. There was one contestant, Jen, who was a UK size 12 (Which I think is like a US size 8, anyway) and the judges were ALWAYS ragging on her for it. When it got down to 8 contestants, they kept putting Jen in the bottom two girls, and she kept beating out the skinnier models that realistically, would be more qualified. In the end, Jen got third place, and the guys were the last two standing, but she made it farther than the other girls, and that speaks volumes, I think. The voting system has always been the fundamental flaw of a show like this. No matter how much emphasis the judges put on testing them in real fashion scenarios, the audience has final say. They can put Katy in the bottom every single week, and she could still be voted the winner by America. While I believe such an instance would give the fashion-forward fans of the show a conniption, and probably won't happen, I think it would send an interesting message if the girl America picked were to be the one that's told repeatedly she isn't a model. | |

| Re: Make Me A Supermodel (US) TNKY - Do you work in the industry? Just curious, after reading your thoughtful post. I'm pissed that they cut Holly's hair. I thought the bob looked much more memorable and played up her facial features well. Also, it seems to me that while most everyone else was energized by their new look, Holly was demoralized, though determined to try to make the best of it. (And I thought she looked smashing on the runway.) The problem is, Holly doesn't really even get to have a little time to adjust to the new 'do--she's expected to be rocking it *now*. That just sucks. Plus, what's-her-name told her that she'd been against TPTB cutting Holly's hair. Way to stick the knife in and demoralize Holly further. That gal should have kept her mouth closed. As for Dominic--I like his face, it's interesting, but IMHO he's not committed to modeling or this contest, and that's the key to his downfall. It prevents him from really focusing, learning, accepting criticism, and taking chances. To me, it's like he has one foot in the competition and the other still back home as a DJ/whatever (in case this modeling thing fizzles). It's like he's giving this a shot, but on his terms, because he has an image to maintain. Well, good luck with that. |
