| Re: Make Me A Supermodel (US) While we are waiting for the definitive moderator reply, I'll throw in my understanding of the difference between lingo and something like "TPTB". Over the years, there are a handful of abbreviations that seem to have crept into the language of posting and become fairly standard. These are not contrived words, like "gr8" (great) or "I luv U 2" (I love you too). They are actual English words in phrases that are so commonly used in posting--especially the phrase "In my opinion"--that most of the posting community accepts their abbreviated form, much like we accept "etc." for "et cetera". Some of these abbreviations include the ones I mentioned in my earlier post--TPTB for "The powers that be", for example, or IMO and its variations for "In my opinion"--and you may be familiar with others: BTW = By the way IIRC = If I recall correctly IOW = In other words YYMV = Your mileage may vary Yes, I suppose you could consider these to be "lingo". But again, these are abbreviations that appear so often in posts, it seems to have become acceptable on many boards to use the abbreviation instead of spelling out the whole phrase. I admit though--even a string of these abbreviations in the same post could be annoying. My understanding of unacceptable "lingo", on the other hand, would be English words written in a distorted fashion. You see these a lot in text messaging. Examples: gr8 = great 2 = too U = you U R gr8 2, U NO? = you are great, too, you know? Some posters create entire posts using this kind of "fake" English, and it makes the posts very difficult to read. That's why, if I see a post written in this "lingo" style, I just don't read it. I mean, it's one thing to use a common abbreviation or two, such as IMHO or YMMV, in a post that is otherwise written in standard English. But when an entire post is written in sloppy "lingo" English, and the reader has to sit there and decipher every "word", it's just not acceptable. The FORT boards are not someone's cell phone; they're public boards intended, as I understand it, for posts written in standard English. Here is an example I found on the BBC website to demonstrate how difficult it is to read something written in excessive lingo and why it shouldn't be used: Lingo: "My smmr hols wr CWOT. B4, we used 2go2 NY 2C my bro, his GF & thr 3 :- kids FTF. ILNY, it's a gr8 plc." Translation: "My summer holidays were a complete waste of time. Before, we used to go to New York to see my brother, his girlfriend and their three screaming kids face to face. I love New York. It's a great place." Anyway...that's my understanding of what is/isn't acceptable, in terms of "lingo" on the boards. If I'm wrong, hopefully the moderator will clarify all for us. |

| Re: Make Me A Supermodel (US) Wow Dallas! that is the best I have seen this explained yet! I have a much better understanding now. I was confused as to why those types of things were allowed as well. Now if we could only get my beloved 3 letter C word back... (short for because) I would be one happy camper ![]()

| Re: Make Me A Supermodel (US) I'm confused about the change from three candidates for elimination to two. I don't get it. Why did they do this? About Casey, I think he can get modeling work very easily if he wants it. I can't imagine any agency not giving him consideration. His features would be great for so many lines. The fact that he is timid might hold him back from the supermodel role, but I doubt the winner really winds up being one anyway. Ronnie has such a baby face that his perfect features don't photograph like Ben's and Perry's. Ronnie probably doesn't have the range of the other two but he also can model just fine and should be able to have a really successful career. All this emphasis on walk is kind of funny. If you really see a fashion show a lot of the runway models have mediocre to poor walks. They get booked for fashion week anyhow!

| Re: Make Me A Supermodel (US) Casey probably had the best look of all the guys for modelling. But, he needs discipline and to work on his body (he was getting kinda doughy). Ronnie, I think, could be high fashion if he loses a lot of the muscle he has. He needs to change his work out routine, lose a couple of pounds...and he'll be more "edgy" then. |

| Re: Make Me A Supermodel (US) Thanks to the Bravo rerun marathon, I was able to catch up on the show this weekend. Does Shannon have any fan base at all? Is there a chance she'll stay instead of Ronnie?? I'm not sure I care that much either way, but I'd prefer to see Ronnie/Ben/Holly as the final 3 with Holly winning it all. |

| Re: Make Me A Supermodel (US) I used to love Shannon...then I read her bravo's diary this week and she's just so annoying. She always have something negative to say about the guys!! I think she's a great model but she need to be humble...well, let's see who stays! |

| Re: Make Me A Supermodel (US) I'm really irritated that Shannon is in the bottom. The whole episode seemed to be an attack on her. It was really unfair. I think she did well. If she goes, I'll go CRAZY. ![]()

| Re: Make Me A Supermodel (US) To be honest, I'm totally giving up on this show. I just feel that not everyone is given the same chance here. It's more like "Who has the biggest fanbase" as opposed to "Who has the most potential" Ben has such a bad attitude that week and he stays over Casey?? I bet Shannon is leaving soon... Because Ronnie has a larger fanbase than her...That's the only reason i can think of... Personally, I think that the girls do not have the same opportunities given compared to the guys. So America, Please make the right decision. |
