Re: Design Star

I wish both Matt and Jenn luck in the finals, but I have to say that neither has given the Wow factor of designers in the past. I'm not sure I'm going to vote, unless one of them really steps it up next week. Anyone agree? Very disappointing, IMO.

Re: Design Star

Jmb, at the website's discussion board, Trish's mom posted a thread about the episode. She said it took her daughter 2 weeks to recover from the entire season. Trish, and the others, were exhausted. Trish spent her own money to redo the floors. The contestants were limited to where they could shop. The producers wouldn't let Trish use her own carpenter and stores. I guess they wanted a level playing field, (even though they all were designing in their own areas and could have used their own sources). Trish's mom also said her husband loves the recliner and they both love the room.

Re: Design Star

Thanks for that info Roses. Glad to hear the parents like the room and that Trish is "ok".

IMHO having a "2 week's experience" carpenter had to hurt her.

The producers, like many others, "pretend" to be fair sometimes. Really the whole season has suffered from lackluster furniture from chain stores or whatever. Even Nashville is hardly "cutting edge". And Sioux City Iowa?? Ouch

Re: Design Star

Who hires anybody in any field when they've had "two weeks" on the job?

We aren't detailing a car here folks, we're making renovations to a house!

Even two months wouldn't have been enough experience, IMHO.

Two years? Okay, now we can get started!

Re: Design Star

HGTV related but off topic: Have you seen the commercials during DesignStar for the "Summer Showdown"? I went to the website today and it looks to be a lot of fun. They are pairing up designers and carpenters to compete against each other in DesignStar type challenges. It is set to run on Sundays as a special for four weeks. The first will run immediately after the DesignStar finale. One of the lead designers is Vern Yip and another is Cynthia Rowley. Others include David Bromstad and Lisa Laporta. Oh, and CARTER Oosterhouse will also be on hand. The host is going to be George - the guy who does the wild and wacky shows like the Christmas overdecorations. One of the judges will be Sparkle Josh...I didn't recognize any of the other judges, but apparently they are tops in the field.

Take a look at the website.

On the other hand, it's hard to get excited when citizens of NO are being denied housing construction permits and are being "encouraged" to build elsewhere while people like Brad Pitt and this show apparently don't have problems getting permits to rebuild/redesign in flood-stricken areas outside of the French Quarter.
Funny how short lived Brangelina actually stayed in their N.O. home. Publicity stunt. I doubt the oldest son (who was enrolled to start school last year) ever stepped a day in a classroom.

Anyway, I live less than an hour away and I wished I would have known HGTV was in town. I would have been all over it (as a sleuther of course). I can't wait to see what they've done. I am sure it will be typical for a finale so hold on tight!

On a different note, I would have preferred Trish and Matt in the finals. I do think that a ton of talent was let go too soon and what we have left is more "seen it already". I think Matt has potential of grabbing us like David did with his skills but I am ready to see the next trends on the screen. I am SO TIRED of the same stuff over and over. I really want to see new color palettes going to 2009 (loved the black but wouldn't use it).

I would love to see this winner take a spin on the oldie but goodie copycat shows. You know, where they take a "designer room" and copy it for less money. If Jen wins she would be great at that. But then add 1 element to the room to kick it up a notch and call it their own. That would be more fun than the same old stuff. My 2cents!

Re: Design Star

I heard some enchantingly naughty things about Mikey V, some leather and some happy snaps and freaky films, lol. Not that it would make any difference to me (or any of theo viewers) but I wonder if they found out about the happy snaps and that was one of the reasons why he was voted off the show.

Re: Design Star

LOL to Kao....I have no idea what "happy snaps" are but wowsers

I really liked Mikey...he is a cop here in S Florida? I think he worked hard on the challenges and knew his stuff.

Frankly I think the whole season has been hampered by the lack of real showrooms for them to shop in there in Nashville and in the "hometown" challenges. Miami area has sooo many great furniture showrooms. I bet Mikey is used to a lot better quality than the shabby chic junk and bland prepackaged earth tone sofa sets that this season has featured.

Re: Design Star

I love how Matt really welcomes you in, and the fact that he's not perfect at hosting is endearing...he has room to grow. What he did to solve the kiln, huge TV, family room problem was brilliant! If a show tackled hard to deal with areas, with real solutions for the little guy, that would be great.

Unfortunately he might not be a cop for much longer...apparently he's been put in "administrative leave" while they "investigate some things." Never mind the fact that he's been a good cop and the pictures and movie were taken twelve years ago! The whole thing really sickens and saddens me.
