Re: Design Star - Season 2

The major thing that bugs me about Todd is that his designs and his presentations are all about him. He doesn't consider the client, he doesn't consider the viewer, he doesn't consider if the viewer can replicate what he did. Its about him and what he thinks is "cool dude". He is trying so hard to be perceived as cutting edge and innovative that he has completely missed the boat. If he were hosting a concept show (like the car shows where some of the cars aren't meant to be driven) then he'd be alright but he needs to seriously slow down and stop trying to be 17 again.

Kim, in a very sharp contrast, designs for the client and presents for the viewer. She explains what she has done, why, and how the viewer could do it or why they might want to. Huge difference.

If HGTV is looking for a show about concepts and things that can't be replicated that easily (or that viewers may not even want to replicate) then Todd is the way to go. If they are looking for somebody who has ideas that the viewers might want to duplicate and who can present it in an interesting way that they can understand, Kim is the way to go.

I just don't think that Kim has shown enough talent to earn her way into that spot. I believe she flew under the radar in competitions because there was always somebody who stood out as the obvious choice to boot. For her to be the one out of all of those designers to earn her own show just doesn't seem right to me.

Re: Design Star - Season 2

Well you won't get any arguments with that statement. Most of us would have preferred Will to be in the final with Sparkle Josh (probably). However, out of the two in the finale, I do think Kim is the more watchable one.

I don't think Kim or Todd are all that talented as designers and feel that both are there only because each week somebody did worse but we (unfortunately) weren't asked our opinions till the end so we are stuck with the blond judges eye candy and the girl who "flew under the radar".

My comments have been based strictly on the last show and not over the whole series and trying to decide which is best with the options given to the viewers.

Actually, neither Todd nor Kim have shown enough talent to be in the final two. However, since they are, and since they're the only two that can be voted on now, then Kim is it by a HUGE landslide. Todd is just a moron who can't see past his own child-fantasy ego to see what the client might want. And he's irritating as heck to watch.

Not enough talent, training, or "paying her dues." Who cares if she can "be a presenter." She's a hairdresser!

Even worse, her color choices throughout, especially on these last 2 individual challenges, are absolutely vomitous.

Honestly, the suite they were staying in looked better than either of theirs, but I'll have to stick with my fantasy league pick of Todd.

I can't believe they are only letting us vote once per day over the internet, but 5 times if we wanted to pay to text message!

I would have loved to see what Lisa would have done throughout the season.

I would have enjoyed seeing what Sparkle Josh or Scott would have done. For that matter, any of the guys except Todd or Robb, who are both a worthless waste of air time. I'd like to have seen more of Will, too. I know he wasn't comfortable as host, but since I don't plan to watch any of their shows if they get one, I'd like to have seen more of his designs. I think Scott left before we got a good idea of what he could do, also. And Sparkle Josh does a great job, too, having seen more of his designs on his web space. Bad luck and bad timing about his elimination -- he had a lot more to show us before being eliminated.

Re: Design Star - Season 2

I would have liked to see a lot more of all of the designers. This show has way too many group challenges.

They were down to the final four contestants and it was still a team challenge. With such a short time to complete the projects, there's not time for any real collaboration and the dominant/pushiest person runs the show.

How about a Freestyle-show type challenge where the contestants re-style a room using only items the homeowner already has? Or decorating dorm rooms? Anything but team challenges.

Also, I wish the contestants had to present, even for 30 seconds, from the first challenge. The contestants would get feedback from the judges and would have more time to get comfortable doing it .

Re: Design Star - Season 2

Good point about the group challenges, Kip.

Kim has been my favorite from the start. I love her style, she could come do my house anytime.

Todd's room looked like a dorm room. Complete with a wrinkled bed.

Really great ideas there Kip

While Kim seems to be a really fantastic person, I have to vote for Todd because nothing Kim has done has wowed me and Todd has.
