I was trying to find out how much NBC takes in with these stupid contests that charge people $0.99 to vote or bet. Anyways I didn't find THAT answer but I did find this...

German channel SuperRTL fills its nightly slots with a variety of premium SMS shows, including games and text chat programmes. In one example, 'Meister Lampe' is an animated hare who reads out messages from one viewer to another, resulting in a strangely addictive show - talk radio with pictures. Other figures on screen include a virtual sports reporter called Harry, who reads out reader comments to the daily sports news, and a talk show hostess called Sabine. Not only can viewers send text to be read out, but also issue commands such as ‘flirt’ or ‘cry’ – all for 0.99 Euro per message.

I am shocked the US cable stations haven't jumped on this idea.
