OK, I remember now, those cleaning specialists who clean up after there has been a fire, flood etc in the house. Those guys really know how to get a smell out of a house.

Ah, for just one time I would take the Northwest Passage.
Thanks for the advice. Now someone needs to go in and clean out the former owner's lungs! Back to HGTV, I didn't see where anyone had posted this, but "House Hunters" is under fire again for completely faking its show. This is a major peeve of mine because you can do a show about house hunting without deception. We expect that with fiction, and even some fudging in reality for coherence and flow. But to base an entire premise on real-life house hunting when the people featured aren't actually house hunting is more like fraud.

Y'know, Property Virgins has had shows where they didn't find a house or the deal fell through. I actually think that can be an interesting part of the story. The only thing that might be more difficult is the part of HH where they re-visit the new home and we get to see the changes they've made - my favorite part of the show. Surely there's some way to tell the story without being batantly dishonest. I don't know if it's in the article you linked, but I read one recently that said that the houses one homeowner visited were actually just friend's homes not for sale that they then had to dissect and tell why that house was wrong for them.
Has anyone seen the recent airings of the Yard Sale shows hosted by Lara Spencer from Good Morning America? It's on HGTV. They aired several of them on Saturday last weekend. I loved them! That girl is magic. She really has an eye for decorating and finding jewels. I think she has a book out too.
Yes, she does have a book out: I Brake For Yard Sales … and Flea Markets, Thrift Shops, Auctions and the Occasional Dumpster.
I have only seen one episode of the Yard Sale show that she hosts and I agree that she has a good eye. Apparently, it is in the genes as she used to go to yard sales with her mom when she was growing up.
On one of the recent shows she redecorates for a friend in LA. She also did Kathy Griffin's house in LA. IMO she did a great job. She really makes average pieces into works of art. They are items with history and a story. I think that can really make a house a home.
Oh, I also watched Junk Gypsies! I think this was on one of the higher channels of HGTV. I'm still trying to decide what to make of them. They did do a better job than I thought they would.
I could really use her help. lol Haven't heard of Junk Gypsies, but you know what they say.... one man's junk (trash) is another man's treasure. I watched the barter show the other night on A&E channel... I was amazed at how the 2 guys were able to bargain their way up to such big ticket items without laying out any cash.
Here's a link to the video of Lara Spencer's special at the HGTV site. It wasn't easy to find, so I thought I'd help y'all out if you were interested in watching it.

Seeking form amidst the void.
But if that's not possible, gimme a Margarita...shaken, not stirred...and hold the salt, please.
I'm so glad to have found this thread! I have become addicted to House Hunters, and sometimes House Hunters international..but not so much.
I love this show but I get so annoyed at many of the picky, entitled buyers....I guess it's possible they are told to act this way but I'm sometimes astonished and appalled.
I remember buy my first house as a wife and almost a first time mom. We knew what we could afford, along with our hand-me down furniture/or Salvation Army furniture and took the one that fit us the best.
Would have never NOT bought a house because of paint color, regular old kitchen, or some of the other really dumb things these people complain about.
Always having to have granite counter tops??? I was happy to have somewhat decent counter tops at all!
I still love the show but really don't love the buyers.
Do you think it's all scripted to look that way?
I also love Lara Spencer's shows. Am a big flea market shopper but wish I had Lara's savvy. I'm glad she's doing so well now....remember her from Antiques Roadshow.
