Re: The Hills

Everyone talks about how Heidi most likely got her promotion because of her position on the Hills. But what about Whitney? Quite a few people were up for her job, including that super-intern (whatever her name was....Emily?). I'm sure the fact that Whitney was on the Hills played a part in her getting the job as well. And Teen Vogue has used their Hills connection quite a lot, putting Lauren on the cover and having articles inside. So it cuts both ways. I'm not a big fan of Heidi but she does seem to take her job seriously and acts professionally (or at least she gives that appearance). Time will tell if she can truly hack the job or not.

Yes, she does give that appearance. But that is because it is in the script that she act that way. If you read anything about the company, it is all about promoting night clubs. Heidi JUST turned 21 yo. How could she promote something that she legally could not even enter?

I don't get why though, Heidi is always walking into the office after everyone's already been there for a while because they're all settled down to work when she's just arriving.

Re: The Hills

Whitney interned there for 2 yrs prior to getting the job and she's also graduated from college.
Also, i believe the job was to take place in NY(which Emily got), this is another one.

I'm not trying to say that Whitney didn't deserve the job. I'm just saying that the MTV connection probably played a part in her getting the job, same as with Heidi. Jobs don't always just go to the best candidate.
I thought Whitney started at Teen Vogue the same time as Lauren. Wasn't she shown waiting in the lobby with Lauren when Lauren was going to interview? I thought she had worked on another magazine on a different floor in the building?

I do honestly think she has grown to care about her job. As for whether she could promote nightclubs underage...Brent knew her age when he hired her initially. There must have been jobs she could do at the company that didn't involve breaking/bending any laws. We often saw her at the front door of clubs so I guess she was allowed to do that. Besides promoting nightclubs doesn't just mean partying in them, does it? I would think it involves organization of events, interacting with media/p.r. people etc.

Exactly and and Whitney had the job at vogue before the hills she also went to school for this career, Heidi's idea of school for her new job was illegal club hopping and taking [mod edit]. her and whitney do not even compare.

how could you say she has grown to care about her job? The only thing I see her doing at her job is coming in, talking about decorating her office, talking to spencer on the phone, or talking to a co-worker how good Spencer is. I don't ever see her working.

That's my opinion and that's what it looks like to me. And I'm not surprised they don't show her working as that would probably make for quite boring television. They don't really show all the mundane tasks that Whitney and Lauren do and I'm sure there is a lot of that going on (Also, whenever they show Lauren & Whitney working in the closet they don't seem to be working that much, just chatting to eachother. Not to say they are not working hard at other times, just in the clips they show they are not).

Awkward party scene last night. I can't decide if Jason's fiancee is bitchy or if it was just the situation she was put in (with the old flame being around).

I think the band would have partied whether Whitney went out with them or not but I do agree with Lisa that it is best that she keep herself removed from the "talent" in the future. Plus she did look pretty tired the next day and I'm sure that wasn't helpful. All in all I don't think she did too badly, however.

We only see about 2 minutes per episode of Heidi actually at work. That's not representative of what she does in a 40 hour work week. I'd also like to expand on the idea of the show giving the cast members more oppportunities than they'd otherwise have. I don't believe Lauren would've gotten the teen vogue internship to begin with if it weren't for the fact that she was on the show. These positions are highly competitive. I don't think by any means Lauren doesn't deserve her internship, but I also don't think it was necessarily a fair fight in her getting it. I also agree that Whitney was at a great advantage as a cast member in the Hills and that added to her getting the job. I'd also like to remind everyone that Elodie and Heidi are basically secretaries, I'm sure niether of them have outstanding qualifications. Considering the kind of business their in I would say Heidi has more of an outgoing personality and verywell might be better suited for a promotion within that particular jobmarket. The fact that she is a cast member on the Hills likely worked to her benefit as well. What's wrong with that? Is there any evidence that any of these girls are doing a bad job? I say when you have an opportunity to move up in the world to take it.
