FansofRealityTv.com - ABC’s surprise summer hit, “Dancing with the Stars” will return to the airwaves on Thursday, January 5th with all new contestants. The show will replace “Alias” in the eight o’clock time slot for eight weeks during which “Alias” will be on hiatus because of Jennifer Garner’s maternity leave.

ABC was motivated to bring back the show sooner rather than later because it had an average audience of 16.8 million viewers per episode during its summer run. “Dancing with the Stars” also had better overall numbers and better numbers among viewers between 18 and 49 than any summer show since Survivor premiered on CBS in the summer of 2000.

Unlike the first season, ABC will air a results show each week in addition to the Thursday performance show. The day and time of the results show will be revealed later as will the names of the second season participants.
