    "Pet Star", on Animal Planet

What's the Scoop on Pet Star?

Does your talented pooch have stars in his eyes? Is your parakeet a born performer? Pet Star searches far and wide for the best in outrageous pet tricks.

From rats that play basketball and a flag-raising groundhog to roller-skating birds and a butt-surfing dog (seeing is believing), Pet Star brings extraordinary animals to the center stage where they compete for fame and fortune.

Each week, a talented group of animals will unleash their unique abilities and compete against other gifted pets in front of a live studio audience. Weekly winners will receive $2,500 and a chance to be in the final showdown this summer when all 15 finalists will compete for $25,000 in cash and prizes, and the ultimate pet star will be revealed.

With host Mario Lopez and a gaggle of celebrity judges (former bionic woman Lindsay Wagner, Best in Show judge Fred Willard and Baywatch star Gena Lee Nolin, just to name a few), Pet Star may become your pet's new favorite show!

Keep your paws crossed: Pet Star airs Fridays at 8 p.m. ET.

    Mario Lopez

And now, the host of Pet Star ... Mario Lopez!

It takes more than just a pretty face to host a TV show particularly when the star performers have more legs, claws or feathers than you do!

Mario Lopez was born in San Diego, Calif. Although best known for his role as Slater in Saved by the Bell, Lopez is a rising star in film and TV who wears many hats as an entertainer. He recently co-produced and starred in the independent film The Courier, and he co-hosts The Other Half with Dick Clark, Danny Bonaduce and Dorian Gregory.

Lopez has also been seen in Pacific Blue as police officer Bobby Cruz and he portrayed diver Greg Louganis in the TV movie Breaking the Surface: The Greg Louganis Story.

Lopez's first professional role was as the younger brother in the series A.K.A. Pablo.

    Celebrity Judges

No talent show is complete without a panel of celebrity judges and Pet Star is no exception.

Three judges will choose the top animal acts from each show. The studio audience then picks the overall winner who will take home $2,500 and a chance to compete in the final showdown this summer for the grand prize of $25,000.

The winner of show #1 is "Skidboot", who waits until 3 before eating his treat.

Skidboot is one smart canine. His owner, David Hartwig, is a real-life cowboy who adopted the dog from a friend's litter as a Christmas gift for his wife.

Now Skidboot will have a chance to compete in the final showdown this May for the $25,000 grand prize.

This will probably be a really cute show.

Pets often fail to perform when the camera is on them.
