Just rewatched the last ep (without distractions) and saw where the captain of Early Dawn had a mutiny. IMO, what they showed of "the owner's son" didn't put him in a good light. He seemed to be ready to hit the sofa with chips/coke for a year. The phone call submarining the captain just disgusted me to no end. I think the end results said it all, they brought home $28K for 2-3 months work.

I know I completely Agree with you. He is a poorly raised young man. You think his father is trying to teach him a lesson and well he does this and then his dad calls the captain. That says a lot to both their characters. Just sad. I really feel for the capt. If he could buy his own ship he should it would be best and probably better off. Let that owner and his son drive the boat and do it on their own. (Sadly we all know that he would just hire some one else....then again would anyone really want to work for some one like that.) The show is pretty harsh. I mean these men risk life and limb to get the job done and so far this season was pretty tough for them in finding the Crab. Sure they did but you can see it isn't easy and to have a boss like that and a little kid like his son and then the other crew laughing along too. I would just get new crew or new job...(that is my own ship...)

That's the one thing that irks me as I watch this show more and more......the nepotism is outta control. No outsiders get the chance to make that kind of cash for a few days work..it's always this one's son, and that one's brother...no outsiders allowed, and if they DO make it on by some crazy chance, they probably get treated like poo....

What is with the previews for next week??? I hope I saw it wrong and they weren't saying they cart Phil off in a helicopter. I love Phil!! And his kids (other than being a bit to free with dad's credit cards) seem hard-working, earning the respect of the experienced deckhands. That says bunches.

Have you tried to get hired? I doubt there's a long line. Most grow up around it and don't "know no better". And there are other ships in the fleet that are not part of the show. There's more going on up there than what is on the show. Word of mouth (this one's son, and that one's brother) is the best way to find good help. Even down here in the Lower 48. I suppose a ship could hire a crew full of greenhorns from Dallas, but I wouldn't want to be on it.

the first season discussed the issue in depth. After the Quotas were established, many boats were out of business and there used to be lines of experienced guys waiting for a chance. I think over the past few years, it has dwindled off. Remember the rodeo cowboy a few years ago?

I think due to the anture of the industry, it is much easier/tempting to surround yourself with people you know and trust.

Well it looks like Phil is really sick. They took x-rays and showed some white areas in his lungs which could be causing his coughing up blood. I watched After The Catch and he was there so I'm sure he recovered but I felt so bad for those boys last night learning their father was so sick.

I felt bad for his kids too...When he was getting his x-rays the tech was telling him that there was something but wouldn't tell him exactly what it was...I just hate that...Just tell me what it is, why do I need to wait for the doctor to tell me what it is, if you know what it is...

All techs have to do that unfortunately. They cannot diagnose a situation so they have to send it to the doctor or specialist. In this case with the lungs, those white areas could be many things so it was wise of her to not say any specific thing. I couldn't believe he sat there and continued to smoke after beginning to cough up blood! Even my mother who was a lifelong smoker would have stopped smoking until she knew what was wrong with her. I'm sure we would have heard if it was cancer by now since this was filmed early this year.

I'm an x-ray tech & we can't tell people what we think it is because that's considered diagnosing, & that is the doctor's job (& liability), not ours. It's beyond our scope of training & we can get sued. That tech told him more than I would have. I don't feel comfortable telling patients anything beyond letting them know I got what I needed in the image in order for the Dr./Radiologist to make a diagnosis.

People are so litigous, so it's mainly a liability thing.
