So, How Long Will Flo Cry? House Of Dreams ~ episode 10

We open this week with scenes of Flor laughing. Yeah, she’s really bummed about Jim all right. Trying so hard to cover her despair and anguish over his departure.

HA! I could barely type that with a straight face.

After a few scenes of Flor laughing we get to Mike talking to Naomi. He tells her there are six people left, and wonder what his odds are in winning the house. Now, I know he’s talking about how the votes would go, I know he realizes that it depends who he would be up against, but still I want to yell at him: “Your odds are 1 in 6 moron”.

Ahhh, finally shots from the previous night with Flor crying. Tony tries explaining to her that Jim isn’t dead, just not here any more. I think Tony has forgotten that Jim has to go home to his wife and play Spin Doctor. Hell, for all we know he might very well be dead.

Flor is seen in a flashback going through Jim’s luggage before the previous eviction. She helps herself to some of his clothing, and then slips a note into the bag. It begins the way we all begin letters to friends we met a month ago: I LOVE YOU! I kind of giggle at the thought of Jim’s wife finding it.

The mystery of Flor’s signature porcupine hairdo is resolved. It turns out circus girl Viv has been doing her hair for her. This serves as a Public Service Announcement to all the young ladies watching: Never, ever let a person who works in the circus for a living do your hair.

The crew heads off to the site to learn that they need to install the sprinkler system for the lawn. Joe tells them that a man needs to run the trench machine as it takes muscle. This ticks off the ladies. Flo remarks that she thinks that Naomi is actually stronger than Matt. I look at Naomi’s arms and think that Flo might be onto something.

For some reason no one is talking about the game. They are all working hard and digging the ditches. Mike finally makes a benign comment about votes, and Viv gets pissed off.

At the key ceremony we learn that even though Naomi escaped eviction last time, she still needs to draw a key like everyone else, that’s how it will be from this point forward.

Flor makes it through, and Mike goes up to the door. He and Tony are the only two that have never had to wear a red hat. Mikes lucky streak ends, and he dons the hard hat. Viv is up next, and her key won’t unlock the door. She walks over to George (yeah, he’s still on the show), and takes the hat. George then conspicuously “trips” over a small pile of dirt, prompting him to start digging. Lo and behold he finds another red hat.

TWIST!

This week there will be three people from which the jury must decide to evict. Tony winds up with the third red hat. He really thinks his positive attitude will help him. He sees no reason to get upset about this.

We hear about his troubles. He lost his job with a landscaping company because of his shoulder problems. That started a downward spiral… he lost his house, his car, then the apartment they had. He is now in a shelter with his wife and two daughters.

Back at camp he notices that Flor is not crying and he tells her it’s obvious that she is heartless.

In confessional Flor proves him right by saying she’s playing a game, and must get rid of the threats and that the saddest story is a threat, she thinks Tony might have the saddest story (something she would know for sure if she hadn’t spent the last month in Jimland).

Naomi is talking to Mike and is asking (remember that: she is asking) how they are supposed to compete with … now I’m quoting here, so when you read the fourth word, don’t ask me what it has to do with anything, as I don’t have a freaking clue…. “A really kind, black, funny, Christian, father who has an injury, living in a mission”.

Mike makes a comment (she asked right?) and Naomi gets pissed and says this is a personal issue and she doesn’t want his input.

Men Are From Mars and Women Are From Venus… seriously the author actually talks about situations just like this. For some reason most women will go to a man with a problem but don’t want any advice on how to fix it. They want the men to nod along thus acknowledging that it is truly a problem without a solution. Most women are weird.

Next we learn that Viv has an undergraduate degree from Harvard and a Masters from Yale, but chose not to pursue the high paying jobs that an education like that opened for her. She chose to be a juggler.

Damn, that’s a whole lot of money down the freakin’ drain.

She then says she envies her rich friends. Venus.

The next day at the site, Joe tells them that there will be three teams of two working on three different chores.

Mike and Flor will install the cabinets and vanities. Well, Mike will install them and Flor will watch. Mike accidentally breaks the veneer on one of the cabinets, but Joe assures him that for $1,500 they can replace it. For $1,500? Darn diddly that seems like an awful lot to me.

Tony and Matt will lay the hard wood floors. The only thing I can think of to say is this:

How are Men and floors alike? Lay them right the first time and you can walk all over them forever.

Yeah, sorry.

That leaves Viv and Naomi to finish the sprinkler system. Joe has to turn the water on so they can re-direct the nozzles, making sure that the house stays dry, but the as of yet, non-existent lawn gets watered.

Back at camp, the crew gets mail. Each red hat receives a card good for a 2-minute phone call to whomever they’d like to talk to. They can choose to use the card themselves, or give it to a non red hat to use.

Tony holds his out, saying he received a letter from home, and doesn’t need to make the call. Flor, proving again, that she has no heart, grabbed it to call her nephew.

“Hi honey”

“Hi, the Power Puff Girls are here. Bye”

Yep, that’s it. He hung up.

Viv looks at Matt, and sees that he is really sad. She gives him her card and he calls Mom. They get to give each other their love, and as mom is in the middle of saying something else, time runs out and she’s cut off.

Mike tries to give his card to Naomi, so she can call her mom, but she is afraid her mom wouldn’t be home, so she refuses it. Mike goes up to the phone and calls Naomi’s mom anyway.

Again the discussion gets cut off, but not before they get to say, “I love you” and “Miss You” to one and other.

Back in one of the tents Mike and Matt discuss whom they would like to be up against in the finals. They both decide that it would be in their best interest to be up against each other. They realize there is no real way to prove that they will honor this new agreement to help keep each other, but Matt says after the vote Mike will know.

Flor has been looking for her heart, and it seems that she may have found a piece of it. She realizes that Tony is a threat because of his sad story, but also knows that she probably won’t win, and she’d rather lose to Tony. She has decided to vote for Mike to go.

Every week the red hats have been able to choose furniture for a room or two. This week it’s the garage. Joe is standing over by two brand new Hyundai’s (sp?). One is the really cool looking Tiburon and the other is the ever popular Santa Fe. We then learn that they won’t actually be choosing between the two, but rather what color they will be, as the winner gets BOTH vehicles parked in the garage.

Mike chooses Red for the Tiburon and Silver for the Santa Fe. Viv picks Blue and Merlot, Tony opts for Black and Merlot. No, it’s a color, not a wine.

Tony’s choices win the vote and the crew is ecstatic. They are all really getting psyched about winning this house.

As the red hats pack for eviction, Mike says he is confidant that he will be going home. Viv really isn’t sure how the votes will go. A week ago, she would have been more confidant, but now things are different and people actually seem to like Mike.

At Eviction Pier the three each get a turn to talk. As always I will paraphrase what was said:

Mike: What I came to do was have fun and meet people. I had no idea I’d grow so much this month. The kid in me thanks you all for everything I will be taking with me.

Viv: I expected to want to kick everyone out. I did not expect to want to keep everyone here. I want to win, but you all have to do what is right for you.

Tony: For me this house means a lot. I’d love to be able to go to my baby girls with the key to this house. I’d love to present my wife, who has stood by me always, with this wonderful gift. (He then breaks down and cries, which prompts Mike and Viv to look at each other in a defeated manner). I really want this house.

The three leave the pier so the jury can deliberate.

Naomi: It’s a hard decision. If I can’t win this, Tony should

Matt: I know Tony needs the house, but I question the decisions he’s made in his life. It worries me to just hand him this house.

Flor I’m trying to decide who I would prefer to lose to, I think it would be Tony.

The red hats return to hear the verdict, which will be announced by Naomi.

Naomi: What we decided, and it wasn’t easy, but ultimately it was about us and our families…. We want Mike and Viv to stay.

DAYUMMMMmmmmmm. I can honestly say that this is the only eviction in the history of Reality TV that has actually surprised me. I must also thank the producers, because if they’d promised me a surprise eviction, I wouldn’t have been.

Tony finds his letter in the boat and it turns out that the stakes have risen. Tony receives, and is happy with, his check from Lendingtree.com in the amount of $10,000.

He says he’ll put the money in savings (um… savings? Hopefully it will be there only until they find a place to live).

He will tell his little girls that God has something else planned for them, and that daddy has been helping someone else reach their dream.

As much grief as I’ve given Tony for announcing that “God told him how to vote” that once, I will say that I feel for him, and his faith makes me smile.

Back at camp I’m pretty sure we hear that Flor was the only one who actually voted for Tony to stay. We also hear Naomi rationalizing her decision by saying Tony would have done the exact same thing. Whatever helps ya sleep at night honey.

Next week the campers get drunk. I can hardly wait.

I'm impressed Cali...less than 12 hours and an awesome recap! Now I don't even have to watch the show!

Thank you, cali ! I taped it last nite and the tape ran out just as Flo's (I mean Flor's ) nephew hung up on her. Cannot believe Mike survived, glad he did. From the recap, glad they upped the parting gift, glad Tony goes home to family with enough for a good start.

Don't feel bad for Flor about Jim leaving. Gossip piece in the Star said that Jim is currently living with Flor in her apartment in Queens, NY.

I for one knew that Tony was going to get the boot. Ultimately this is a GAME and winner takes all. The stakes are too high at this point for the others to be swayed by Tony's crying and caring on.. and yes he did sob dramatically during his speech.. This was his mistake.. for the others who were each moved by the story suddenly realized.. hey if this guy is making ME cry and feel sorry for him.. If it was a choice between me and him in the end you know darn well the grand jury would pick him and his pathetic story!

Oh and Flor wasn't just pathetic stealing Jim's clothes.. she was wearing them! Right down to his favorite sandals.. I hope they were at least washed. And her hair style resembled Buckwheat’s from the Little Rascals.. and no this isn't a racial comment.. do a search for a photo of Buckwheat (cute little kid) And his hair was EXACTLY the same style.. Guess it’s true once you got your man or he's gone you really let yourself go!
