I saw that episode, too, last year when it first aired, and I wondered what the judges were smoking. Irvine and Florences's menu was genius, while that of the "southern gals" was rather sucktatious.

I would have only been interested in half the items on the winner's menu, but I would have liked to try all the items from the other team.
I agree. I thought the other team should have won. Their menu looks so much more appetizing.

Anyone think that the new Food Network show "Chopped" is a copycat of Bravo's Top Chef???

Also, Chef Robert Irving has completed his contract with the Food Network and there will be some new Dinner Impossible shows starting March 2009. Even after the big "resume" scandal I still perfer Chef Robert over Michael Symon for Dinner Impossible. Why, oh why in this day and age where information can so easily be checked on the internet do people exagerate their skills and exploits. They will be caught.

Robert Irving was fired from the Food Network for lying/exaggerating on his resume. At the time he was supposed to be opening 2 restaurents in St. Petersburg, Florida. There were several newpaper articles explaining the situation. I think if he only exaggerated about one thing he would have gotten away with it, its that there are several exaggerations and in this day and age of instant communications and the internet much can be verified and that is were the trouble lies.

If you google Rober Irving + scandal or resume or firing you will be able to find the articles in the papers and various blogs etc...

    Re: Food Network

I knew this was thread was somewhere, spent a bit hunting for it.

Anyways.. all my fellow foodies.. anybody watching the latest challenge? Last Cake Standing? They just started it last Sunday so it's not too late to start watching. 4 episodes in which they eliminate somebody in each one till the last one left gets a check for $50,000 and the title of Best Cake (something or other) in America. It's awesome. And Bronwyn? (however you spell it) comes off like such a poor sport at the very end that even my husband who is usually a huge fan had to say "bitter much?" and she wasn't even eliminated!

I highly recommend it and Elise(a) is on there. Remember her from the Extreme Cake Challenge? She did Revenge of the Sock Monkey? Love her. Jason is also there, he of the awesome flower cakes. Very good show.

I have it on my DVR for my Saturday viewing. I'm looking forward to it. I watched what seemed to be a marathon of Cake Challenges this past weekend. Loved the Revenge of the Sock Monkey, lol.

I was very happy to hear that they will be showing new episodes with Robert Irvine.
I am sorry he felt the need to pad his resume. The Michael Simon guy is, for me, a poor substitute for Irvine and I never watch Iron Chef when Simon is on.

I love the Last Cake Standing! I'm not sure of the comment about Bronwen, however. I think she is a doll - and I think her cake definitely should have won. I will definitely be watching.

I like watching Dinner Impossible with Robert Irvine, but that shrill alarm constantly going off drives me nuts.
