Please see my post about that on page 15 of this thread

She has never had an "idea" that I haven't already thought of. Hubby refers to her as "that annoying little troll."

Thank you! You nailed it right on the head...like I was going to go buy the cheapest, crappiest artificial vanilla there is out there but now I won't... Don't get me wrong--I think I'd love to eat her creations, but I don't think I could stand having a conversation from her.

Why is she called the Barefoot Contessa? She looks too fussy to ever take her shoes off...

I used to love watching Jamie Oliver on the show but I don't think he has any shows on there anymore, does he?

Regarding Rachael Ray's $40 a day...when she first did the show, they didn't include any tips, so I'm glad they've been including at least some tip these days. I take it with a grain of salt about the tipping that she's undertipping so she can keep it at $40 a week. I'm sure that when she goes to all these restaurants, she's just comped anyhow and the eatery gets exposure. I'd like to think that when she goes out for real, she'd tip well. livin4reality, does that waiters message board say they don't like her show 'cause she undertips there or that she undertips in real life?

I like the whole concept of $40 a day, but when I'm on vacation, I don't have the time or energy to spend my time finding the cheapest meals. I don't care if I spend too much on food--heck! I'm on vacation! I'd rather spend my time sightseeing and doing stuff than running all over town to stick to a food budget.

    But I like the show.

See my page 15 post -- it tells you why she is called that.

On another topic, I saw a lot of Sandra Lee-hating posts, so I will just say if we ever got to bvote to kick just one of them off, I would kick off Rachel first, then Ina, before I'd ever kick off Sandra, who brings a refreshing kitsch factor to the network. And what about that British one Nigella, who is hardly on the network at all and yet is one the commercials for Next Food Network Star? I've seen a couple of her shows, and Sandra's are better -- not to say I would watch Sandra on a regular basis any more than I could watch Sponge Bob, for instance. Nevertheless, there is a niche for such things.

In regards to Ina, I completely agree with all my fellow posters who are sick of the "good vanilla, good olive oil" thing. I can't really stand her whole 'I live in the Hamptons so I'm better than you'-type attitude she has. But her food generally does look good. There was a barbeque sauce she made once that sounded really good.

I forgot about Jamie Oliver. His show on Food Network Canada is Jamie at Home and I really like this. He grows stuff in his backyard and cooks and prepares it outside.

I have always liked Nigella and her zaftig-ness. There is something about skinny cooks that just isn't right, lol. Her show on FNC is Nigella Feasts.

(That would be post #147 for those with differing page settings...)

I did enjoy seeing her Chefography program, same with Giada. Though it really didn't change my opinion "much"...

Ina's little silly laugh gets to me... I find myself mocking her, and that is not a "good thing".... I can see why she and Martha would be friends...

I forgot about Nigella. I don't care for her either. Someone referred to Giada's show as food network porn, but IMO Nigella fits that description better.

Another show that we haven't mentioned is the Deen boys show. I love it!

That's right... The boys are cuties. Nigella's Chefography is full of surprises..

I also really like the restaurant makeovers, but I haven't seen a 'new' one in a long time...

And for a step back in time... The Two Hot Tamales... For a time I wondered if, perhaps, they were a couple, and imagine my surprise to learn the Blonde married the Brunette's ex husband... They seem to have some sort of extended family, and share "custody" of a fantastic kitchen designed by the Tamales. The Ex/husband is an architect and built the house that they may all share. Kinda fuzzy on those details... I only saw that one once, LOL...

My favorite to watch every afternoon was the mini version of Iron Chef... They would pit a regular person or audience member with a professional who would do head to head with identical ingredients, and the audience would vote. I think there was shopping involved, as well... $20 sticks in my head for some reason...

I actually had read that post but I still don't know what a Barefoot Contessa shop is. It sounds disgusting, to tell you the truth!

Nope, I can't stand Sandra Lee. She may be a trained chef but all her creations look disgusting (to me). I hate the matching clothes/kitchen look, too. It's too fussy. I like Nigella. Her food looks delicious! The Deen boys--I don't like them. Not one bit.
