The cakes were underwhelming to say the least, but I enjoy the show and will keep watching. I see a few people, who once the nerves settle, will get better.

There's a similar show on the Food network. It's called the great holiday baking competition or something.
The hosts are okay but the contestants are cute. One guy is from the south - like the hill billy south. He has the funniest sayings and is hilarious. He also makes some unique desserts, like depression pie! He is my favorite. ♥️

Yes I watch that one too. It is on Sunday nights. Was the depression pie the ones with beans instead of pecans. He makes me smile. I like the judges too. Duff , Nancy and Lorriane.

I know about that show. It is okay but lacks that calm feeling and Mary Berry!

Yes Nickmom, it was made with beans! I don't know if I could have tasted it. It did not sound good. But bless his heart for originality!

I really like Jason. He is the last home baker standing Food Networks Holiday Baking Championship. Other than the woman from Oregon, all the rest are professionals. I am impressed with what he can do and enjoy his personality.

Re: The Great American Baking Show (ABC starts 12/1/16)

I watched (well, I DVR'd) and yes, the rolls looked amazing.
A few comments that I've been thinking about...
    1) I'm really feeling the loss of the minutes of show from having commercials in the middle vs. when the British one is on PBS. I feel like there just isn't enough time showing them baking. It's like, they get the challenge, they start, then suddenly they're finished. And they aren't showing all the bakers working in each challenge. I took a minute to respond to a text message while I was watching and missed the entire showstopper round. Suddenly they were judging them.

    2) Why do they even have the hosts? They aren't necessary, and frankly taking time to show them making funny faces (which is basically all they do at the beginning of each round), takes time from showing the actual baking.

    3) I realized one big difference between the American and British versions is the greater number of men bakers in every season of the British one. Young men, older men, various occupations, etc. And I realize that that has seemed sort of different when I've watched it. Different from what we're used to the the US, where fewer men bake, as it tends to be a "woman" thing.

I agree aramcrobat. Either the commercial interruptions or poor editing is hurting the flow of the show. They seem to cut parts out or they are inconsistent with the time they give each judge to evaluate each baked good.
The breads competition was good. Everyone did well.
