Wil revives Eretria with the Elfstones. Within the magic of the Bloodfire, Amberle learns the nature of her quest from the spirit of the Ellcrys before returning to join Wil and Eretria. While leaving Safehold, the group is pursued by Trolls, and Eretria stays behind to give the others time to escape. After returning to Arborlon, Wil and Amberle profess their love and share an intimate moment. Bandon escapes from prison with Catania's help. The Demon army attacks Arborlon, and the Elves and Gnomes fight to defend the Ellcrys. In the battle, Ander and Commander Tilton encounter a powerful Demon warrior, who is revealed to be a resurrected Arion. Arion runs Commander Tilton through, then is stabbed by Ander. Briefly coming to his senses, Arion begs his brother to kill him, and Ander complies. Allanon and Slanter rescue Wil and Amberle from a group of Demons and escort them to the Ellcrys. The Dagda Mor blocks their way, and Allanon battles the evil Druid. Amberle tells Wil the truth: she must sacrifice herself to become the new Ellcrys. The Dagda Mor knocks Allanon aside and tries to kill Wil and Amberle. Wil holds off the Demon leader with the Elfstones, and Allanon beheads him. Amberle successfully becomes the new Ellcrys, and the Forbidding is renewed, banishing the Demons. Allanon admits to a heartbroken Wil that he knew what Amberle had to do from the very beginning, and reminds him that all magic comes with a price. Wil rides off to Safehold to rescue Eretria. Bandon is briefly seen carrying the Dagda Mor's evil blade, his eyes turned completely black. It is revealed that Eretria has been captured by Trolls; she recognizes one of her captors.
The episode ended with a "...to be continued".

It was a fairly satisfying ending to the series. I don't think the writers dug into the politics and culture of the elves and other races as much as they could as far as folks fighting to get power either helping or hindering our heroic trio. That complexity was missing and would have added major depth to the series. Considering many of the characters were elves we didn't see much of them except as canon folder for demons. The series creators did manage to create a world, character designs and costumes and hopefully they will do a better job of integrating it all in season 2.

While the TV show has focused on the main storyline of Wil, Amberle, and Eretria and a secondary focus on Allanon, Bandon and the king/shapeshifter and the two princes, the politics of the the Elven Council or other leaders was never really touched upon and last week coronation of King Ander instead of a council woman was weird as that council woman was never seen before or mention and yet again she pops up in this episode and manages a coup against Ander. If their had been some preparation for this character and her actions that wouldn't have been a problem as it lends a depth to elven society we haven't seen up to this point but to just pop up just jars and I am thinking did I miss and episode?
I had to do some inference to figure out who she was. I don't remember seeing her before this episode.

I saw the last episode today. I enjoyed it very much. I was disappointed that the Amberle/Wil romance ended as they were very sweet together, but . . . Is there going to be a second season?

In some of the earlier episodes you see people in formal robes standing near the Ellcrys. I think there were some shots of the robed people in the throne room with King Eventine, but none of them had any lines and there was no explanation as to who they were. But later when Ander was thinking about abdicating he mentioned a Councilor who would be happy to take over and then later that Councilor tried a coup. I don't remember the name of the Councilor and when I saw the scene where Ander was talking to Allanon about abdicating I thought did I miss an episode? There was some really poor continuity on the showrunners part.

    Re: The Shannara Chronicles (MTV)

    FYI: SEASON 2

‘Shannara Chronicles’ Season 2 Moves From MTV to Spike | Variety

“The Shannara Chronicles” Season 2 will move from MTV to Spike ahead of the latter network’s re-branding as The Paramount Network, Variety has learned.

The 10-episode second season of the fantasy series will air this fall. Based on the book series by Terry Brooks, Season 2 takes place one year after the Season 1 finale. The Four Lands are in chaos. The re-emergence of magic has the populace terrified, and an organization called The Crimson is hunting down magic users, using fear and intimidation to sow discord among the races. Wil, scarred by the loss of Amberle and his separation from Eretria, has turned his back on his magical destiny to become a healer. But when a mysterious woman named Mareth saves Wil from a Crimson attack, he is forced to rejoin the fight.

The series stars Austin Butler, Ivana Baquero, Manu Bennett, Aaron Jakubenko, and Marcus Vanco. Vanessa Morgan, Malese Jow, Gentry White, Caroline Chikezie, and Desmond Chiam will join the show this season. Al Gough and Miles Millar created the series and executive produce along with Brooks, Jon Favreau, Jonathan Liebesman, and Dan Farah. The series is produced and distributed worldwide by Sonar Entertainment in association with Millar/Gough Ink and Farah Films.

The move comes amid restructuring at MTV and Spike parent company Viacom. CEO Bob Bakish is making changes at several Viacom-owned networks, with MTV shedding most of its scripted fare in favor of unscripted shows like a revival of “Fear Factor” to be hosted by rapper Ludacris.

“After much consideration, it was decided that the second season of ‘The Shannara Chronicles’ will air on Spike,” MTV said in a statement. “We’re honored to have worked with our extraordinary production partner, Sonar Entertainment, along with fantasy visionaries and executive producers, Al Gough, Miles Millar, Jon Favreau, Jonathan Liebesman and Dan Farah along with executive producer and best-selling author of the book series, Terry Brooks. We’re pleased that fans of the beloved franchise will be able to follow the characters and epic story they love on its new network.”

Viacom also confirmed in March that “Heathers” and “American Woman,” which were originally in development at TV Land, would instead debut on Paramount Network as part of shift of resources at Viacom toward a small set of core cable channels. The series adaptation of the film “The Mist” is set to debut on Spike in June. Paramount Network will officially launch in January 2018 and is intended to be a broad, premium-entertainment network.

    Re: The Shannara Chronicles (MTV)

I am looking forward to the second season on Shannara Chronicles. It is one of the few of these type of shows that I really enjoy. I liked the Magicians until they went to Narnia and then it went down a strange weird path and I lost interest. I hope Shannara continues to be as good as it was the first season.

I liked the Shannara Chronicles, too! I'm happy to hear it will be back.

I feel the same way about the Magicians, annemik. I liked it better when they were on Earth. It just got weird in Fillory. I hope they eventually leave there.
