Jane the Virgin - The CW

    Based on a Venezuelan telenovela:

Set in Miami, the series will detail the surprising and unforeseen events that take place in the life of Jane Villanueva, a hard-working, religious young Latina woman whose family tradition and a vow to save her virginity until her marriage to a detective is shattered when a doctor mistakenly artificially inseminates her during a checkup. And to make matters worse, the biological donor is a married man, a former playboy and cancer survivor who is not only the new owner of the hotel where Jane works, but was also her former teenage crush.

Premieres on The CW, Monday October 13, 2014

Hearing that the critics like it, that it is quiet smart and a departure from the usual CW heroine as the main character has a brain.

It's called willing suspension of disbelief. You just go with it

This has gotten rave reviews here, not so much for the plotline (see disbelief suspension above!), but for the main actress, who everyone says will be a star not matter what happens to the show. Also locally very praised for the normal way in which Hispanic American culture is presented, not a beat on your head thing, the easy way Jane switches between Spanish and English (e.g,. Abuela at home, Grandma to her Anglo friends), that that's just normal.

This show wasn't on my list to watch, but I happened to catch it on On Demand. I really enjoyed it, and it's on my list of must sees. I liked the mix of comedy, drama, and soap opera. After seeing the previews of the season, I find myself excited for the next episode.

I'm enjoying this show as well! Nice blending of North American sitcom and South American soap! I find the actors really fun to watch as well.

I agree they have done the best blending when you compare it to Ugly Betty and Devious Maids.

I was prepared to hate this show. I don't know why. I think because I thought it would be purely a suspension of disbelief. And while it is that, I also enjoy the characters and even the charactatures. I find this show charmingly endearing and it is a must watch for me.
