    True Detective (HBO)

I accidently ran across a trailer for this new series on HBO! It looked impressive. Matthew McConaughy and Woody Harrelson star in it! Not too shabby. It's supposed to premiere in January.

Me too! It looks like it will be well done.

I think I misprinted the name of the show in my Thread title. I think it's singular. Oh well. lol

    True Detective

HBO show about a pair of detectives. Flips back and forth between the past in which they are investigating a gruesome murder and the present, in which it appears a new pair of detectives are investigating a similar crime and are interviewing the older pair.

I just heard some good reviews of this show recently, so I'm a little behind. I just started watching on HBOGo. I'm on the second episode now. I'm really enjoying so far. The first episode did a great job framing the main characters. The second episode is doing a great job showing how that original impression might not be so accurate. If I don't stop watching, it might actually convince me that Matthew McConaughey and Woody Harrelson have acting range!!

I've been watching since the very first episode. The last two have been great with the 2/9 episode being jaw-dropping, off-the-chain, one-of-the-most-gripping-hours-of-tv fantastic!

Oh good, I'm not the only one who loves this show. I think McConaughey is fantastic (I prefer when he plays dark characters like this) and Harrelson is a pleasant surprise, too, though I don't care for his lockjaw style of speaking. The writing and dialogue is great.

Any guesses as to who the Yellow King is?

    Re: True Detective

The Yellow King seems to be from a book of horror stories written in the late 1890's by Robert Chambers. In fact it is very popular on Amazon as it is a $0.99 Kindle book. The Yellow King was also referred to by H.P. Lovecraft in his writings. That is about all I know.

Amazon.com: THE KING IN YELLOW: Annotated: This 120-year-old book has risen to references in US crime series True Detective. eBook: ROBERT W. CHAMBERS: Kindle Store

Hard to believe there's only two more episodes left of this - it's been an incredible ride and tonight's episode was on another new level. WOW!
