Buffy
Sidney Bristow

I can't imagine either of their characters portrayed by anyone else. (Funny, but I heard recently that Katie Holmes was originally offered the Buffy role - soooo glad she turned it down!) And it cracks me up b/c I didn't like either of these ladies in their previous roles (Sarah had really turned me off as Kendall in AMC and I hated Jen's character, Noel's ex-girlfriend, in Felicity) so I wasn't too excited about them when the shows first started. . Funny how opinions change...

I'm sure I can come up with a few more but these were the first two who popped into my head...

This is such a fun thread. I'm enjoying remembering a lot of truly great TV characters.
How could I have missed Lucy, or Ricky, or Ethel, or Fred? They just don't write them like that anymore.

I want to add the entire Connor family from Rosanne. Rosanne Barr has taken a lot of flak over the years but her sitcom is still among the best. I don't believe there has ever been a sitcom as "real" as Rosanne. And my daughters race to the TV when the reruns air - that's how well it holds up more than 15 years later.
