Who is the actor portraying Judge Hatfield? He looks so familiar but I cant place him. Other than Costner and Bill Paxton, the only other names I recognized were the wonderful Mare Winningham as Mc Coy's wife. I really enjoyed episode one, at least from what I could hear of it.

And Tom Berrenger as Jim Vance.

I see I'm in the minority. I was bored to death. My husband was thoroughly enjoying it though

Stupid question of the night: How do you get closed captioning for one show on satellite TV? It's probably obvious, but not something I've ever tried to do.

Well I don't have satellite, I have TWC! I select Menu and then select Set Up! There you can scroll until you find Closed Captions! I thought telling you what I do might help with your satellite options!

I had no interest in watching this, but hubby wanted to so I figured I'd just mess around on the computer and stuff while it was on. Surprisingly, I'm really enjoying this miniseries. I'm not into history or shoot em up type movies, but I really am liking this.

Couldn't activate closed captions on our Fios unit (do folks pay extra for it?) and didn't really need it.

To keep characters straight I was following two Wiki sites - one for the tv series and a discussion of the feud. So far the tv series is following the feud discussion fairly closely.

I knew he was in this but I didn't recognize him until late into the first episode. I think this has been pretty interesting so far.

I was staring staring staring at him last night and still couldn't recognize him even though I knew it was him.

Still loving this series. I really like how they did it as a miniseries - they have more time than a standard movie length but not so long that it gets drawn out to the point where you don't care. You just see the progression of how the feud got worse and worse by different people's actions. It got to the snowball point where even if Devil Anse and Randall wanted to end it, it's gone too far to stop it.

    Some articles about the program:

'Hatfields & McCoys' earns record 13.9M total viewers for History Channel
