I don't remember how long the "audition" process was to find Kathie Lee's replacement, but it wasn't a short time. I don't watch the show all that much, so I don't really care who they hire as Kelly's co-host. I've seen a few episodes in the last few months. Some were good and some were pretty bad. Jerry O'Connell (who I normally like) stands out as one of the bad ones. I thought at the time that he was drunk.

I LOVE NPH and would be happy to see him co-hosting (or, really, doing anything), but I don't think that would happen while he's still on HIMYM.
I agree with your comments about Regis in his later years. He could be crabby and sometimes his insistence on things could be rude. He often got names, places, events, info wrong and didn't seem to care. I guess those who have watched him for many years, chose to overlook that. What I could not overlook was the the adoration of Donald Trump. Uggghhhhh. Not for me.

I'm still thinking of co-host. What about Billy Crystal?

As I said Regis was over 80 and maybe his age and crabbiness had something to do with Disney wanting him gone.

I was never a fan of Gelman, the producer who seems to be in charge of all these changes. I never thought he was one to think outside the box...he was pretty predictable so his vison of what the show should be is not something that would interest me.

I agree about Gelman. I have never understood why or how he has that job. IMO the man has zero personality and seems ill suited for the position. Plus, the show has never had very good researchers. So much of their info was wrong when I watched. The only fact checker seemed to be Gelman going to google during the show airing.

Billy would never do it.You can hardly get him do award shows anymore. I like him but this show is small potatoes for him

I've watched Regis since his show first went national, I believe it was around 1983. Kathie Lee had just become co-host and those first few years were fun when Kathie Lee was single. Then she married Frank Gifford, had Cody and Cassidy and became insufferable with all the kiddie talk and how wonderful her kids were. Ugh! Then came Kelly. She was young and cute and perky. I agree that in later years Regis became kind of crabby. Plus, he always took so much time off. I guess my opinion of him is tainted, though, because a close family relative worked many years for ABC and said he was the rudest person ever and so full of himself. I did get that feeling, though, that he thinks very highly of himself. Mostly, the past few years I watched just the opening segment up until the first guest came out. If the top guest was someone who interested me, I would continue to watch, otherwise I would tune out.

I enjoy Mark Consuelos in small doses but not as a permanent co-host. Seth Myers was great this week. However, he may be a little too sharp and on the ball for Kelly's audience. Today he made an astute and funny comment (wish I could remember what it was) that went right over the audience's head. NPH would never do it, imo. He's too busy with his show, plus he often emcees the Tony Awards and stuff like that. I really have no idea who they should go with.

*GAG* Can't stand Billy Crystal. He hasn't been funny in at least a decade. Plus, he's an attention hog. To be a talk show host, you have to at least feign interest in someone other than yourself. I don't think they'd even consider him, but if they did, I'd hope they'd come to their senses. He doesn't strike me as someone who would even sign up for a daily gig like that. Plus, I think pairing Kelly with another much older man would be a mistake.

I thought Seth Meyers did a good job, although he's probably too busy as head writer at SNL to be the long-term co-host. Still, I think he's a good fit - he's young, smart and funny....plus, he's really quick.

The baby animals were cute today, but I was totally distracted by the handler's pornstache. I kept hearing "how-chicka-bow-bow" in my head through that whole segment.

    Re: Live! With Kelly

Seth Meyers has said that he wants to stay at SNL through one more election cycle, which kind of implies that next season will be his last with the show, if he stays for the entire season. (Amy Poehler and some others have left mid-way through a season). So if ABC would wait that long, he COULD be available, but I agree he definitely couldn't do Live and SNL. If he had the job permanently, I think he'd figure out the depth of the audience pretty fast. Outside of SNL, he does a lot of stand up and hosting gigs for very different audiences from college campuses, to the ESPYs and various charity events. He always seems to cater things to the audience, so once he understood what the daytime audience really was, I think he'd be fine. He's definitely my pick because I think he would compliment Kelly rather than overshadowing her, or by Kelly being overpowered. While I sort of like the idea of her being paird with an older man like she had with Regis and like Bryant Gumbel would be, I think someone like that would overpower her. When she first started with Regis, the way he treated her like "I have so much to show you kid, and you're going to love it!" was endeering. But now, she's established herself on her own, and deserves to be respected for that. She needs an equal. Not someone who is going to allow it to stay the Kelly show, and not someone who is going to diminish her.

No, because they work 14-16 hour days to produce SNL, and as head writer, he is there for most of it. I saw something a Biography on how they do the show one time. They write the entire show in one night (on Monday or Tuesday I think?) and the writers never go home. They stay about 30 hours straight.
