I think in this case they were more showing she was hired because of her hip shimmy and such then the language skills. And - I wonder if they did this per the 1960s supposed sexism in the workplace bit where she got the job because the man was the one doing the hiring.

That was the implication I got, too, although I would have found it more believable if it had only been a man doing the hiring.

BTW, thank you to the person who clarified the end part of the episode for me. I'm glad that they're allowing Maggie to continue, but it also was nice to do it in a way that should Ricci needed to leave for a few days for some movie or something Maggie could still be in lessons then come back reformed and even better.

I loved the ending. At first I thought that she would waltz up to the office and have them tell her, "We decided not to fire you," so that she squealed to that exec for nothing. I like this ending better, though, because the former ending would have been too cliched. This way, if something happens to Dean, then she'll have to wrestle with her conscience over whether her choice was worth it. That look on her face at the ending says she might be regretting it, or at least feeling guilty.

I had mixed feelings about Maggie in this episode. At first I was confused, too, about why she lied about her college classes. Then I realized, Duh! this was probably before the age of federal financial aid, so she had no money. That was sad.

OTOH, she should have known that lying about speaking a foreign language, for a job that required it, was probably going to come back and bite her in the rear end. Why did she wait until now to learn the language? As soon as I got hired, I would have started studying.

And why was she constantly subordinate? Lord have mercy, if I had lied to get a job, I would have kept a low profile and and tried to avoid getting noticed. Maybe she needs counseling because of her bad background? I mean, chasing after a customer because of a tip is not a great way to keep your job, either, so clearly she has some issues. (I did the love the part about her running after the truck, though. I think everyone has longed to do that at one point or another.)

As for specifically why she was about to get fired, back in the Paris episode, she smarted off to that (admittedly) nasty lady checking her weight. The lady said she was going to file a complaint, so I wondered when we would see the result of that.

I have to admit though this is a much better acted show than a lot of what I've seen as new this season. Then again, ABC tends to do really well in casting talent instead of face/looks in actors.

I love this show for the same reason I love "Once Upon a Time": it's different. It's not yet another clone of a cop/legal/medical drama. It's also complex, well-acted, and has characters and plots you can relate to.

They're switching episodes around again so that the one that should have come next will not be shown (ever?). I hope this doesn't mean we don't get a full explanation with regards to what happens with Dean/Ginny/Maggie.
I would have been learning Portuguese so fast, too. And I wouldn't be trying to learn it now in a Pan Am facility -wouldn't they be questioning why fluent Maggie would be taking out beginner Portuguese tapes? I wouldn't want that getting back to the bosses.

Does anyone know if it has been renewed or if more episodes are being shot currently ? If not, at the most we will get 2 more episodes . Not enough time to wrap up any of the storylines .

^ Read it elsewhere. They switched episode orders earlier on the season (can't remember when) but there is speculation they are not just shifting the next episode but will not show it at all. All i know about it is that it had scenes in Rome. They are still filming episodes; if I remember correctly one of the destinations is Haiti.

Last night at the end, they showed clips of Laura with an African-American man, and him getting beat up in next week's episode. If they don't show that episode next week, then it will be totally confusing.

BTW, is that guy playing Nico the same actor who played the foreign doctor on ER? I have a thing for foreign accents, so I actually had a bigger crush on him than on George Clooney.
