Re: New TV shows for Fall 2011

I've felt the same way about New Girl, JJ. I love Zoey, so I'm sticking with it. The whole scene in the last episode where they all went to get Jess's TV back was terrific. That's the kind of thing that will keep me tuning in. I think the show will settle in and get better. Already, Jess isn't as "Hey, look at me! I'm kooky!" as she was in the first episode.

We have early CBS primetime here so Charlie's Angels is up against Person of Interest. That means the Angels are probably not on my viewing rotation. I missed the premiere of POA and only saw about 20 minutes of tonight's epi (I really should learn to turn the phone off!), but I can still tell it's miles better than CA!

Since Prime Suspect is OnDemand (and fast - tonight's epi is alread up), I'll stick with it, for now.

It's official. The Playboy Club is the first New Show Cancellation of the season. Apparently it's over immediately & there are no plans to air the remaining shows.
I must admit, I didn't tape it this week & cut it from my taping schedule after last week. It really wasn't that bad, but it was up against 2 great shows: Castle & Hawaii 5-0. I watch one, tape one. I didn't want to tape 2 at the same time. I have enough taped shows to catch up on during the weekend Mornings, between schedule conflicts & shows that are on before my viewing time.
It's cutting time for me. I've cut a few more that I kind of like, but just not enough to pad the tapes. If it isn't Must See for me it gets cut.

    RIP Playboy Club

Critical was right - Playboy Club is the first show to be axed this season.

While I didn't watch the show, I do find it a bit sad that shows don't seem to get much of a chance to find an audience before they get canned. They better not cancel Pan Am or 2 Broke Girls.

New Girl, Up All Night and Whitney have been picked up for full season runs.

I fully agree. I watched an episode of Playboy Club On Demand. It wasn't terrible and was better than some new shows, but I also do the watch and tape for Castle and Hawaii Five-0 and would not give up either for any show and certainly not for Playboy Club. It didn't stand a chance in this time slot.

And here I was hoping the first cancellation of the season would be the god-awful Charlies Angels. Too bad...

I haven't seen it & don't even know when it's on. That in itself says something.

Re: New TV shows for Fall 2011

I can't believe Whitney has been picked up for a full season . I only watched the first show and thought it was horrible. I can't see How To Be A Gentleman lasting much longer either. I tried to watch and it was excrutiating. The "gentleman" character's voice grates on my nerves and he looks like an unsuccessful cross between NPH and Anthony Michael Hall. I'm sure Two Broke Girls is a cute show but it's not for me. I gave it, Charlies Angels and The Playboy Club a try for their first episodes and decided they weren't interesting enough to add to my already full schedule of shows.

Even with many of the new shows being On Demand I just don't care enough about them. I like Persons of Interest but if I miss an episode it would be ok and so far it isn't On Demand. New Girl is probably not going to stay on my radar for long either. I already watch a similar show, Happy Endings, and like it better. I've seen one ep of Prime Suspect and liked it enough to give it another go. I made it halfway through Pan Am and had company come over so I haven't gone back to it yet but will give it another try.

I've said it before, they really need to overhaul the way they determine ratings before canceling or continuing a show. With VCR, DVR, online at the network site, and On Demand (and similar) through cable or satellite, I'm betting a vast majority of people don't watch live any more and I'm one of those people. Even some of my favorites don't always get watched live.

Kinda sad the Playboy Club was canceled, not because it's a good show (it's not horrid either - there are at least SOME actresses who can act in it), but because of the complaints. I mean... it's on at 10/9 p.m. Central on a starting school week (Sunday), and there's complaints from the PARENTAL COUNCIL?

I mean - come on... it's at a time of night children should be SLEEPING, why in the world are THEY complaining?

Honestly, this third episode was quite good and much more intriguing to the point they would've been able to at least continue it. (I do find the irony of it now though).

Instead, we're left with a "V" remake fiasco if they pull it before the rest of this season ends. they should at least allow it to finish showing the current episodes.

And yes, "Charlie's Angels" will most likely be the next to go. Compared to that show's actresses, "Playboy Club" looked like Shakespearan actors (and yes, this is saying something ).

Ha! I think being cynical about TV networks helps! I'm not sad about that cancelation. I never watched the show or liked the concept. Plus, Eddie Cibrian makes my skin crawl. I feel sad about shows like that being canceled only because of the crew and behind-the-scenes people who will lose their jobs.

I was reading an article that handicapped the season and speculated which shows will be canceled first. The guess for first canceled was the Hank Azaria sitcom (Free Agents?), although PC was right up there. The article speculated that Charlie's Angels would be gone by Thanksgiving. I wouldn't be surprised if it was around that long, only because ABC spent a ton of money promoting it AND because of the involvement of Drew Barrymore. Without her, I think it would be gone before epi 5. With her, I think ABC might risk it just to not tick off a big star.

I watched and really liked Hart of Dixie with Rachel Bilson on the CW, but it didn't do well in the ratings. I hope it doesn't get canceled - I need one guilty pleasure show! Unfortunately, it's on Monday night, which is really chock full of popular shows.

I thought Whitney was okay, but not great. I think it's been helped by the shows around it. In a different time slot, it would probably sink fast.

I still have really high hopes for Grimm in a few weeks! By then, who knows how many more shows will be canceled!
