Just started watching this one last week----and so far I am pleasantly surprised. I must say, last night's episode was quite good. :-)
I think the previous show have been better than the one last night, but it was still good.
One problem that I have with her though is that she reveals too much about the police investigation to her daughter and her daughter's friends. She told them that LE thought the son murdered the man. WHAT. THat kid is a juvenile and you are telling other teens that he is a murder suspect andthey haven't even completed the investigation. All her daughter and her friends have to do is put that out on the internet and the son could be bullied and scarred for life with allegations that he murdered his father. What's wrong with her? I hope they realize how improper that behavior is and stop it.
I'm a little behind and just watched the episode wherein the hospital administrator tried to kill the boy she held responsible for the death of her son, and may I say, ugghh. First, I've never been able to abide Dana Delaney and her role in this is not helping at all. And second, did the frat boys hold the woman's son down and force coke up his nose? I didn't get that - what I got is that he succumbed to peer pressure and took the stuff voluntarily. If that is indeed the case, then he is solely responsible for his own death and Delaney's character being marginally dismayed that the life she saved was that of the frat guy is just repulsive.
Rattus, I saw the episode you described, but can't recall the details you question about. I'll try to rewatch it and see if I can get any perspective. I have enjoyed the show though. If you don't like Kim Delaney, then this show is not for you. It's a lot about her and in a big way.
Last night was a shocker for me. I had not realized that her mother is a judge and a mean one at that. When her mother refused to sign for the resuming of her husband's body, I was shocked! WHy not allow her daugther some peace. NOW, I'm wondering if the mother killed him and made it look like suicide. Wouldn't that be a shocker! I totally think that may happen.
Yeah, I know it's all about her, and therein lies my conundrum. I have a weakness for fluffy, lightweight whodunits, but a dislike of Dana Delaney. It reminds me of Close to Home from a few years back. Again, fluffy, lightweight whodunit combined with a dislike of Jennifer Finnigan. Ironically, John Carroll Lynch is/was in both these shows.
Ug - I remember Close to Home with that woman who's now on Better with You. I think she was on Crossing Jordan before that and got killed off.
I watched 2 episodes of this show before I just couldn't anymore - I may try and watch some repeats this summer, if they put it on earlier than 11 - I won't waste taping space for this show.
I've watched several episodes now and really, really want to like this show but there's something "off" about it to me. :mmm Is it that Dana's character is too perfect/self-righteous......Sonja Sohn's female detective character is so wooden......they haven't figured out how to portray the male detective's character (the guy from Drew Carey).......? I don't know. The show is fakey to me. I notice the "acting" too much. The character I like the most is the nerdy, curly-haired pathologist. :lol
Yes. I can see your point. I think Dana's character is that way because she used to be a surgeon and now she can't. For whatever reason, surgeons are supposed to have this terrible reputation for being egotisical and know it alls. I guess that's why they have her play it that way.
I don't care for the male detective who works with her. I think he is miscast.
I do like the curyly haired guy you describe and the other guy who is so funny. I think he is comical in a good way.
I'm sure they will make changes as they go and they see how the show is received.
By "other guy" you mean her "boss", the portly black man? Yes, he and Mr. Curly are both good. Her sidekick detective seems to have a weird role...what, the police dept. can waste a detective just to hang around the ME's office with her? I missed the first couple of shows, so maybe someone can explain how they explained that? They don't seem to be going for sexual tension in that relationship a la Patrick Jane or Castle and the women they work with.... He never seems to help solve the case, just point out when her hand starts to shake. It's more like they have her hoping to get back with her husband.
PS That egotistical rep surgeons have, mentioned above? Well deserved in my experience! Not that there never exceptions, but I've never encountered such a full of themselves group in my life as when I had to do some sexual harassment training in a hospital....everyone else was somewhat reasonable, but the surgeons acted as if you would be responsible for the death of a patient if you asked them to consider another person's perspective on their behavior for a minute.
