Re: Harper's Island

[[Good grief....at one end, it was a shocker that it really was Henry and that he was sick enough to plan this weird "safe house/island" for him and Abby, but on the other hand, it was a let-down too. I am glad that Madison and Shea survived and I am very happy that Jimmy and Abby are together. It did have a happy ending and I am a hopeless romantic so I am pleased with them together but at the same time, I am sort of let down. Also, what in the world did the producers mean in their tweets about how some people would wonder who the killer was, others would be like I knew it, and others would be like what the heck was? Anyone who watched the show would know who Henry was. I think that was a total red herring.

As to the why he did it, wow, all that because he wanted Abby? Just the way he made it sound, I am guessing NOT in a brother/sister relationship, but as lovers. The part where he said, "no one knows I am your brother" clinched that idea for me. I guess I don't get why he couldn't just dump Trish and tell Abby that he wanted to be with her and have to go through the hassle of killing everyone. It's not like everyone knew, heck, people asked why they hadn't ever hooked up. I think that maybe a few would have had to die to keep the secret, i.e. likely the priest, J.D., Abby's dad, and Wakefield, maybe the deputy guy. Did Abby's dad know or did her mom keep the secret? I am going with he didn't know or he would have told her before he died.

Re: Harper's Island

Liz, [[I think her father knew. In an earlier episode he said "what she did" referencing Sarah - led me to believe that he knew the secret. The look between Sarah and Henry's "mom" told me that there was a reason why they brought Henry to the island to play with Abby every year? But, what was their age difference??

I wonder if that twitter "what the heck?" message refers to the fact that Henry /Abby are half siblings? I think some people bought in to the Henry is a nice, loving compassionate guy - but I saw how he reacted to the news about Uncle Marty. I am surprised that no one referred to the Dr Jekyll/Mr Hyde personality swing in Henry? That he could have fooled those closest to him - whereas Wakefield stands out as wacko, Henry slipped past even Trish. However, I have known people that would keep it together in front o medical doctors, but talk crazy as soon as the doctor walked out of the room; so it is possible to exhibit such behavior.
]]

I can't wait to watch it tomorrow in high def!

[[Okay, I found it...I knew there was a part where it was brought up if Abby's dad knew and according to Wakefield, he didn't.

The scene where Wakefield is still in the jail cell and he tells Madison he wants to talk to Abby and she goes back in.

WF: Did you're mother love your father?
Abby: They were very happy together.
WF: If she loved him so much why didn't she tell him about our child?

Fades out to Henry and Sully blaming Jimmy for being the ally

I really don't think the sheriff knew. I got the impression that Abby and Henry were the same age but I guess Henry was a few years older. The look that passed between Abby's mom and Henry's mom told me that at least she had confided in her.

I just don't know. The more I analyze the show, the more discrepencies and questions I have. Although the show is all tied up in a neat little bow with the "bad guys" dead, I am unsettled. I don't feel sorry for Henry but I don't think he was really "bad," more just being messed up in the head and then finding out that his parents lied to him and then further corrupted by his vengeful father. I think that Wakefield used Henry for his own means to get to the island and have another killing spree and I am glad that he killed Wakefield and saved Abby. There are just so many questions left unanswered and the producers tweets have been that we would get everything answered but we didn't. Grrrr.

Liz, [[I think Henry was 10 years old in that newspaper article dated 1991 about the big fish, so he was born in 1981, Abby birth year was 1983. ]]

Re: Harper's Island

[[Finally saw the finale. I have mixed feelings about it. There were things I loved and things I didn't.
I'm happy w/Henry as the killer. And happy that Abby & Jimmy survived. But Henry telling Trish he was the killer could've been an epic scene and it wasn't. The big reveal we've been waiting for all season was a bit of a let down, IMO. And I kept waiting for them to go back and show how Henry killed everyone.

Also, another interesting twist (that would also have explained Madison's weirdness and Wakefield's fondness for her) would've been if she turned out to be Henry's daughter. If Shea and Henry had an affair. So the killings would one day continue with her.

[[an even BETTER twist would be if MADISON of all people was Wakefield's child...with Shea thus having an affair with Wakefield. ]]

Re: Harper's Island

Confused by one thing, why with whom the killer turned out to be that Jimmy was not close to the first one killed.

Re: Harper's Island

I actually managed to stay away from this thread - I didn't want to be spoiled before I saw the show. I'm assuming it's okay to discuss without spoiler boxes since I just finished watching it here on the West Coast. The reveal with Henry was definitely creepy/spooky. I do wish that he had explained more with Trish. The first half hour of episode 13 felt out of sync with the rest of the show. The Henry/Wakefield backstory felt contrived to me. The whole "I met Wakefield during the Rampage and we connected then," then Wakefield lowering his weapon even though he was about to kill Henry didn't ring true. I also don't think that they really explained why Henry hated his adopted parents so much. The parents seemed fine in the one flashback they showed. In general I think the plot outline was good (it definitely kept me interested and posting!!), but the execution of the plot could be been better. i also think that the series in general could have done with more character development, and less slashing.

Even though Jimmy was my main choice for much of the last month, I'm happy that it was Henry and not Jimmy who was the killer. I also agree with the others who said that they were not sad it was Henry. I did feel sad that Trish was killed by the person she was going to marry.
