I did not hear that. Thanks John. My guess would be that guy in the lab. I can't remember his name but they have been slowly pushing him into the field. My guess is that it would tie in with Grissom's deafness.

Greg? Yeah, he could. I hope not, though.

I have a funny feeling it's going to be George Eads.

I am tired of shows that say they lose one of their own, and then it's someone who we have maybe seen in one or two episodes.
It will really suprise me if it is one of the real regulars. Suprise me and piss me off!

I'm with Cali. It'll probably be someone like the morning shift guy that's always locking horns with Grissom.
When you're ten years old and a car drives by and splashes a puddle of water all over you, it's hard to decide if you should go to school like that or try to go home and change and probably be late. So while he was trying to decide, I drove by and splashed him again. - Jack Handey

I read up some more info on this alot. Some rumers say it may be Grrissom but he said in interviews he will stay for his 5 year contract.

I ran into this rumer/spoiler on 2 sites

Sources today revealed the first plot information for "Play With
Fire", the penultimate installment of CSI: Crime Scene
    Investigation's third season.
In the episode, an accident causes a massive explosion in the Las
Vegas crime lab. Greg Sanders is seriously injured, his back covered
in second-degree chemical burns, and is hospitalized. Sara is also
caught in the blast, resulting in cuts all over her face and arms.
In the aftermath of the explosion, Grissom moves throughout the
injured, checking his people, and comforts Sara, even helping to
extract some shards of glass from her arm while the paramedics are
    busy with other patients.
Surveying the scene the next day with Dr. Renee Cavallo, the
assistant director of the Las Vegas crime lab, Grissom resolves that
the lab is still usable for the most part: only DNA has been
destroyed, though the print lab has also been affected. While Grissom
is confident the CSIs' work will not be affected, Cavallo reminds him
of the Tom Haviland murder case ("The Accused Is Entitled") and how
the defense team went to great lengths to cast doubt on the
reliability of the evidence an unscrupulous lawyer could use the
explosion as an excuse to get their client off.
Cavallo is a woman on a mission she wants to know exactly what
happened, and who is to blame. Grissom announces that he has put
Catherine in charge of the investigation, as he is working a murder
case. But will Catherine like what she discovers?
While the B-story centers around the murder Grissom is working on
with Nick and Sara, the episode will also reportedly contain an
important plot development regarding Grissom's hearing.
Please note that the above plot details have not been confirmed by
CBS, Alliance Atlantis or Bruckheimer films, and until such time you
should treat this information as you would any other rumor. The
information comes from an early draft of the script and details may
change before the episode goes to air.
"Play With Fire" will likely air in May, 2003

Some say it may have been one of CSI's own that caused the explosion.

This is what I found on the finale.

CSI's third season will end with two startling revelations, according
    to creator Anthony Zuiker.
The season finale, entitled "Inside The Box", will see "two
gargantuan secrets revealed one to a character, one to the audience
about one of the characters", Zuiker told Carol Cling at the Las
    Vegas Review-Journal.
Zuiker, who wrote the finale with Carol Mendelsohn, said the episode
will center around a bank robbery with a difference. Something will
be "taken from a bank but not money", the executive producer
    teased.
This will be the second year in a row CSI's season ender has featured
a major character revelation. Last year's "The Hunger Artist" dropped
the bombshell that Grissom was slowly going deaf; it is not known
whether "Inside The Box's" secret will also revolve around the lead
    CSI's hearing loss.
Location scenes for "Inside The Box" are currently slated to be shot
in Las Vegas starting April 28. The episode will likely go to air on
    CBS in mid-May.

So maybe with them saying they will loose one of their own it may be just someone leaving who had caused the explosion. I was thinking it may be Greg if they would have someone die do to Gil letting him do field work. Then next season they can have Gil start a downfall with his hearing and with the loss of Greg

    TV Guide says....

The May 8th episode has an explosion in the lab,"triggering revelations bigger than the explosion itself." Grissom might have been able to avert the explosion if he had been more aware of his staff's personal problems and will also have to deal with his deafness. An unspoken attraction will also escalate... sort of. "in just one word, Grissom will say more about his feelings for Sara(Jorja Fox) than he could in 10 pages of dialogue.

Where the hell did this attraction come from? I always thought he and Marg's character had a little silent flirt thing going. I never saw any sign of interest in Sara from him at all.
Life should NOT be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in an attractive and well preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways, chocolate in one hand, martini in the other, body thoroughly used up, totally worn out and screaming "WOO HOO what a ride!" -- Steve Parker
