Re: Swingtown

I say put it on FX where other similar shows are. Dirt and Nip/Tuck come, immediately, to mind. Swingtown would fit in nicely.

Re: Swingtown

I like that idea prhoshay, FX would definitely take it! I really hope they read these boards so they know how much we truly like this show. I am so disappointed in tv lately and this show is a nice change.

It depends on whether the show's creators are motivated enough to shop it around before everything gets dismantled and the actors are elsewhere engaged. Sometimes I think we care more about these cancelled shows than they do.

That would also be a good pick. The reason I said Showtime is that I remember Mike Kelley saying he had shopped it to Showtime and they were interested, but at that time there wasn't room in the budget. Also, there wouldn't be the FCC problem. After that, he got it to CBS. Anyway, I think I am dreaming. Like they'd try to save it anyway. I was really wanting to know what happened. I don't really care about the kids--especially that ugly daughter, but the others I am interested in.

Have they (CBS) actually said when the last show will air? I have seen commercials for this week's episode. I hope it is not the last. I'd really like if they kept it on until the September, or whenever the "new" season begins.

I have seen a few commercials for new shows that will be starting in September. I am seriously considering whether or not to invest any of my time into them though since they will probably be short-lived!

CBS has effectively pulled the plug on Swingtown,[by] moving it to Friday at 10pm beginning this week. It started strong, with 8.6 million viewers for its debut, and much more importantly a 2.8 rating in the adults 18-49 demo. However, by last week it had dropped to only 5.32 million viewers, and only an overnight 1.6 demo rating. Demo starved CBS was likely initially elated about the show, but now is resigned to its failure.

An amusingly accurate interpretation of CBS remarks from Tom Jicha at the Sun Sentinel:

CBS Entertainment President Nina Tassler said the other day that she is proud of the show but wished it had better ratings.

Translation: We thought we had something, but we were wrong.

And they’re giving Flashpoint another chance in Swingtown’s old slot Thursday at 10pm. It won its timeslot, but started weaker than Swingtown, with 8.13 million viewers, and an overnight 1.9 demo rating. It slipped to 7.12 million viewers and approximately an overnight 1.5 demo rating in its second airing. That’s not a good trend. However, CBS seems to want to give it a chance in a somewhat more viewer rich environment. I wouldn’t bet on its success there either, but CBS has little to lose by trying.
source: Swingtown Likely Cancelled, Flashpoint Given a Chance at Renewal

So all of this cancelled stuff is just speculation because of the move. Ghost Whisperer and Numb3rs were both moved to Friday nights and survived so although moving the show is the first nail in the coffin it's not the end of the show.

I think FX would take the show too far - we sure get an eyeful on Nip/Tuck. I think I might like to see the USA network pick it up, that way the focus would still be on the people and not the sex.

Re: Swingtown

For people like me that don't have cable (realizing I'm in a huge minority here) moving swingtown off of network and to any of the cable stations would be a great disappointment to me. Dexter totally bummed me out too.

Yes, it was during the writer's strike CBS decided to buy rights to show Dexter's first season edited for television. I am not sure if it will be back on CBS or not.
