Re: Viva Laughlin

I didn't watch the show, and the extent of my knowledge of it is pretty much what I've read in this thread. But why on earth would CBS choose to premier a show like this in the Fall, on a Sunday night, after football? Have they forgotten the concept of audience flow? IF this was a good show, it sounds like the kindof thing that you sit on for a mid-season replacement. Wait until CBS broadcast the Tony's, promote the heck out of it during that broadcast, and THEN air it. Then it may have a chance. The likelihood of large parts of the football watching audience saying "Hey, I want to stick around through 60 Minutes to watch a musical drama about a casino in Nevada"? Not likely.

Re: Viva Laughlin

^^ Are you telling me that the rough & rowdy footballers won't be ready by Sunday night to get into a chorus line & do the cheerleaders kick to some Casino rock? Shocking. But now they'll never get the chance.

Actually I've read that the audience for football these days is heavily female, at least compared to what you might think... surprise, surprise...

Re: Viva Laughlin

I watched for awhile on Oct 18th when this show first aired. The main reason was I like Hugh Jackman, and Eric Winter from "Brothers and Sisters" is cute. This show is really poorly written, and the music numbers seem out of place, unlike say the music number in "Pushing Daisies". I hated the lead guy who is trying to build the new Casino which is probably the main reason I did not watch the full hour.Plus my partner was calling it dreck. Hugh Jackman should just keep to being in movies.

I don't think its a matter of male vs female as much as interest / content.

Re: Viva Laughlin

Hmmm, I like and watch football, even play fantasy football AND I like musicals and opera. The two are not necessarily mutually exclusive.

I'm not saying Viva Laughlin was a good show; it probably wasn't, but it was nice to have the choice to watch this kind of show rather than CSI: On the Moon or Law and Order: Ad Nauseam.

Re: Viva Laughlin

Never meant that they're mutually exclusive. But if you were to do one of those circle things where you overlapped the pieces of each circle that share a common interest, it'd be a smaller interest than if the two circiles were "musical dramas" and "Tony Awards" or "football" and "basketball".
