South Of Nowhere

I was looking through the threads and found that there was no South Of Nowhere thread - what a scandal! I love this show - just got caught up on the 1st and 2nd season. I think it's great and that everyone should watch. There's definitely more than enough drama, and the show's pretty different - it's the first U.S. series for teens whose main charecter is lesbian. Whether your straight or gay, this show rocks and is REALLY entertaining.

Here's a description of the show for those who don't watch:

New TV Series "South of Nowhere" to Feature a Lesbian Teen
by Sarah Warn, Editor in Chief
June 2, 2005

There's a new lesbian teen coming to TV, but this one is on a series aimed at slightly younger viewers than most TV programs.

The N, a nighttime cable network for teens that is a subsidiary of MTV Networks, has just picked up the series South of Nowhere, a half-hour drama created by Tom Lynch (The Secret World of Alex Mack) about three teens struggling to adjust after their parents move them from Ohio to L.A. The press release describes the siblings this way:

Spencer, a 16-year-old, athletic and attractive young girl who never felt like she fit in small town America. She is excited about her new life in Southern California, but begins to question everything--her friends, boundaries, school life--even her sexuality. Clay is the Carlins' adopted, African-American son. He is 17, smart, aware and trying to figure out how he fits into this new world. He is looking forward to connecting with his culture, but finds that being black in L.A. is a test he may not pass. Glen is a handsome 17-year-old who seemingly has the world in his pocket. The star basketball player hopes to keep up his "big man on campus" image and his popularity with the girls.

The role of Spencer will be played by Gabrielle Christian (American Gun), and Spencer's wild-child best friend and potential love interest, Ashley, will be played by Mandy Musgrave (Days of Our Lives).

South of Nowhere is the latest of a handful of original series to be developed by the network. A sort-of kinder, gentler MTV (it is, in fact, a programming arm of MTV Networks, and currently available in 43 million U.S. households via cable, digital cable and satellite television), the N features a mix of first-run series, like Miracles and Degrassi: Unscripted, and reruns of teen-oriented network TV shows, like My So-Called Life, Moesha, and The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air.

While gay and lesbian themes have occasionally surfaced on these series (Degrassi in particular has a reputation for exploring edgier topics), South of Nowhere will be the first U.S. series aimed at a younger audience to revolve around a lesbian teen.

South of Nowhere airs on Fridays at 8:30pm on The Noggin.

So what do you think of this show?
Post your thoughts.

Season 3 is believed to start airing in November 2007. I will post when I get official word.

Hey CornedBeef, I looked into it, and you can download Season 1 over the internet at Amazon.com, or on iTunes. Also, you can watch episodes of the show on The N's online channel, "The Click".

Unfortunately neither of the seasons have been released on DVD.

Hope that helps!

I must admit it's a guilty pleasure of mine. I watched the first season at The Click just before the second season started.

So much drama for such young kids. Spencer was being stupid jealous toward Ashely & Adain, who is so totally hot! I couldn't tell who got shot.

Do you know when it starts up again?

I think they should have kept the Depression storyline with Madison going longer.
I remember I was SOO angry that Kyla and Ashley would fight so damn much...I'm glad that they finally accepted each other.
And I felt so bad for Spencer and Kyla at the dance.
I wonder who got shot.....
God so much DRAMA!
Oh and did I mention the actor playing Adrian is hot, Hot, HOT?!?!
Can't get enough of him.

I have to admit I've never even heard of this show or seen it in my tv listings.

I hadn't ever hear of it either. It's on The N Channel They show teen shows, like Degrassi and Dawson's Creek. I caught a preview of the show and thought it looked very interesting. Then, I caught like 4 episodes in a row and caught the rest online. I got addicted quick.
