    Re: Brothers and Sisters

One of my favorite shows... but wow what a downer this premeire was! Well, not a tear-jerker like Grey's premiere, but just generally depressing!

Also: Justin and Rebecca fighting before their engagement party, Justin getting a terrible interim report at medical school - afraid of failing out after a lecture from his dean - and Justin's PO'd when he finds out that Senator Robert made a few calls to get him accepted. Justin feels he doesn't deserve to be at the medical school at all. Tommy not featured at all this episode, but mention made of him having called someone. Did you see that gigantic needle going into Kitty's neck for the test? Yikes!!!

The one thing that made me laugh is that every single time there is a gathering of the Walkers, no matter how festive the occaision, it devolves into a big fight where all the dirty laundry gets aired.

Thanks for the summary PWS and Cornholio.

I'm sorry I missed the horrible dates. I'm sure that was the comic relief.

Well crap, I didnt realize that the premiere was on Sunday night! I'll have to go find it on abc.com, apparently. I'm in trouble between TAR, Drop Dead Diva, and Army Wives on Sunday night. *sigh*

You know I always wondered how Justin could get into one of those undergrad/MD combo programs---they are usually reserved for kids with stellar high school records and great SAT scores....and certainly we know Justin didn't have the former, and probably doesn't have the latter. I put it down to the general unrealisticness of TV, but now they have an explanation for it. I don't see how he's going to pull off raising his grades in EVERYTHING... and he had poor advising--he's taking nothing but science and math so far as I heard. And you don't take biochem until after chem. Grrr.
So Justin's right...he is in WAY over his head. Robert did him no favors. Being able to do battlefield medicine does not necessarily translate to doing well in calculus and biochemistry.

I hear ya, PWS (I swear I'm not stalking you...lol). It was never believable to me that Justin got into med school. Nursing school, maybe, but not med school.

Another thing that irritated me last night...The whole Nora/Holly argument. Nora agrees to let Holly throw the party, which would be Holly's gift to the kids, and then Nora buys a a little picture frame? I've never heard of the party being the actual gift. When I had mine, the two families all pitched in to throw it. It just seemed odd to me. Especially the part where Holly spent a wad of money to throw the party and Nora only bought a picture frame. I guess I don't understand what their agreement was.
I hate when the cops throw me in the back of the squad car ....like they didnít hear me call shotgun.

You know, the season premiere was just kind of "meh" for me. Maybe after all these seasons, I'm over the same old thing. The Walkers have inappropriate fights at parties, Holly is always trying to upstage Nora, Nora is clueless about her kids, etc. Can we get some new stuff here?

I like the characters, but I guess I wish the writers would give us something new. The only character I like completely is Scotty and half the time I wonder why he just doesn't get the hell out of there!

I think you underestimate how impressive military service, especially as a medic, looks to schools. I know that in my area of study students who have previously worked for the peace corp or teach for america, some sort of national service, are very highly regarded by admissions people. I imagine it would be the same for med school in Justin's case.

I can't wait for Gilles Marini's character to show up. Hubba Hubba, loved him on DWTS last season.

I have heard of the party being the actual gift - much like if the bride's parent(s) pay for the wedding - that is usually considered the gift and the parents are under no obligation to give something else (just ask Miss Manners or Dear Abby). I think Nora was thrown because she wasn't expecting something so lavish, involving so many decorations and "extras." I think that part of the problem is that they didn't really have an agreement. It's clear that Holly wanted to throw the party and Nora let her, which might have been the extent of their agreement. Although it seems like Nora was going to help pay for the party, which is why she might have been concerned with all the lavish things. I have no clue why Holly interpreted Nora giving Justin his great-grandmothers ring as a gift to the couple, which promted Holly to buy the car and possibly to go overboard with the party.

Yeah, it was almost as if they cut a couple of minutes at the start of the show...where some conversation took place that we missed. I was going huh? from the first time they mentioned a previous agreement.
