I just didn't think it was necessary to be that graphic the pornography magazines were no big deal to the mom when she found it the first week then it was a graphic scene about them later and I did think it was casual the way she lost it. Whether she was upset or not afterwards. There was all the sneaking out before hand and the planning with the friend, who was happy with her decision. The fact that some of the things go on in schools or not isn't a reason to glamorize it on TV. Yes, I think it all appears glamorized when it is on a hip show with cool looking kids and the topics are glazed over and laughable.
I think they could still have a great show without the kids being such jerks and the parents looking so stupid. The kids seem to talk so sarcastic and disrespectful to adults also.
I hate that shows do that now the kids are always endrunning around the rules and authority and it works out for them. The parents/teachers always appear to be so stupid. It is the same way on Disney channel with Raven and Zac and Cody.I am an older mom so I am sure that is part of it! I just think it is important to teach children respect for authority and protect their innocence as long as possible.
I still can't decide if the guy following Kyle is good or evil. Obviously he's done bad things, but is it to help Kyle, or for his own diabolical agenda?!
This is the part of the show I love! I am wondering if Kyle was "created" and got loose or lost by someone maybe the other guy/skeleton. Maybe the guy following knows about it or was a part of it or something?
I do like this show.. reminds me of "John Doe" in some ways.
I told hubby look Joe Doe's little bother. I think he has been cloned,
the thing with no belly button. I don't know too many families that
would take in such a stange kid.
I do agree with Lessie about the smart mouth on most TV show youth,
it has turned me off on alot of the new show that have come and gone
because I feel like reaching inside the TV smacking them up side the head
and I know that would be wrong..lol
I agree with you on the parents looking stupid and the kids so often being disrespectful...one reason I liked the Cosby show--totally the opposite of that.

So I looked at it as they were showing the kind of peer pressure there is out there, and that you will likely regret it if you give in. That's assuming the audience member identifies with the heroine of course!
I have friends who use the phrase "protect their innocence" to mean "don't tell them anything about sex", but I don't see it that way. Really you are saying "protect their ignorance"--which means you leave them wide open to someone else giving them "information". Wouldn't you rather it came from you? Along with your values? Knowing the facts about sex doesn't make you ... what is the opposite of innocent? Guilty? Facts are just facts, including the fact that some of the people you know you, other teens, will be doing this. Once they know the facts you can talk to them about why you don't think they should do what "everyone else" is doing. If they don't, you can't. I'd rather get my 2 cents in first! :) JMHO of course.
Anyway, back to Kyle....yes, the missing belly button does rule out the idea that he's just a regular kid with amnesia. Clearly he was "created" in some unusual way.
OH I agree on me being the one to tell them but protect their innocence for us means telling them when they are asking questions and ready and just not having the trashy side shoved down their throats by pop stars, movies, magazines and tv as well as the types of friends they will hang out with. I just think the trash side ala Brittney Spears, Madonna, are so front and center.
I will continue to watch Kyle as adult entertainment and roll my eyes at the stupid parents especially when they make comments like "our kids are so well adjusted" and I won't allow young minors my nieces are 11 and 12 to view it when they are over. Which is a lot! They come over to play with the baby and we have horses so the 12 yr old horse freak is here all the time!
I do hope they move it along a little more and I do like story line of Kyle liking the neighbor girl.
Maybe this was it for the graphic sexuality---clearly the "sister" of Kyle and the guy she slept with will be moving back into courtship mode and out of the having sex mode. And now that Kyle has mastered the art of concealing his erections don't think it needs to be discussed again... and since the neighbor girl has a boyfriend, nothing happening there.

Re the different meanings of "protect innocence"--I've had a couple of friends for whom that meant not discussing "the facts of life" on the most basic level--one had an 11 year old daughter who clearly was developing, and she STILL hadn't told her about periods, etc. In my classes every year there are some girls who have had their first periods w/o having heard a thing about it---total panic, thinking they are dying, etc. For me that verges on child abuse, or at least neglect. For our kids we discussed the basics when, as you say, they asked--which for them was first about age 3, when they asked, where did I come from. Obviously it would come up again later, and we'd go over it again, but each time putting in our values about when it was appropriate. We were lucky to be able to avoid a lot of the peer pressure issues because the crowd they ran with was not especially into drugs/alcohol/random sex--well, unless I'm as clueless as the parents on Kyle XY!! :)
So wonder what issue is next for Kyle? On 3rd Rock from the Sun they dealt with a lot of these same issues, in a humorous way of course, as the aliens got used to their human bodies. I remember a lot of discussion on the various forms of "leaking" that went on in what they thought were defective bodies. :) Everything from tears to.... well, you can imagine.
I am so in to Kile XY he is so cute and inesent
I agree PWS, I would love to see a show throw back to children with manners and who respect adults and still are fun and sassy with out bordering on obscene. I like 7th Heaven they deal with issues but why can't we have a show like that only not just because they are ministers kids. Old fashioned? Maybe mostly just sick of each show getting more and more extreme because people will watch it.
Kyle dealing with body issues was relevant to the show. I don't think the losing the virginity story line added one bit to Kyle's situation and I personally would have liked to see more of Kyle during that portion. Also the bit about the girl and son jumping in the hot tub naked when they first meet. Seriously couldn't they have shown more Kyle stuff and left that out? It just didn't add one bit to the show. The kid could have liked a girl and had some bits about that but the hot tub, the bushes, all of that?
I hope they will deal more with Kyle's mysteries of his origin and less about this stuff. I still think he will like the neighbor girl and there could be possible issues with that. Jelousy, and other emotions. Also she could end up dumping the boyfriend.
I wonder if he will join the swim team or something at school.
I agree, the hot tub scene seemed over the top. In fact, I agree with the kid--never in a million years would a "hot" popular girl single him out like that in that age group. Just very unlikely--I kept waiting for there to be some way she was doublecrossing him...like a bet with her friends, or he'd be alone naked in the tub and they'd all laugh at him.
Back to Kyle---I think his "parents" are going to become like Clark Kent's in Smallville--not wanting him to do anything that draws attention to himself. But if he's going to go out for sports swimming might be good. No physical contact. Altho he seems to swim like a dolphin or something--surely that's not one of the legal strokes you have to use?
Do you think he can jump safely from high buildings because he is better at jumping (that is, uses his whole brain to adjust his body so he can do it safely), or because he has titanium bones or something?
