Would you say these shows are fixed? Miss USA always makes it into the top 10, (due to ownership, largest amount of tv market?) And usually the lady from the country that it is held in makes it to the top 10.
How incredibly rude for the Mexican audience to boo our lady, btw. It makes no sense to boo us for not accepting your illegal aliens because your country cannot take care of them.

It was rude, no doubt, because this was a beauty pageant and she was a contestant, not a politcal figure. She has nothing to do with the immigration problems and job issues facing the US or Mexico, and by booing her, it only makes them seem irrational and obnoxious.

Unfortunately, this would not have been the only country to have booed USA these days. Had this event been held in any of the countries in S. America, they probably would have been worse. With all of those countries leaning Socialist these days, the anti-American sentiment would have been ugly, at the very least. You won't see it down there anytime soon if Trump has half a brain.

I forgot to add that Miss USA was also booed by the Mexican delegation last year-when the pageant was held in Los Angeles. You couldn't hear it on TV, but fans who attended confirmed it and also said they were treated poorly by the Mexican delegation for supporting their delegate, Miss USA. Trump is all about publicity, and I'm sure he figured it was a small price to pay to have Miss USA booed just to get his name back in the news. I'm not sure whether he counted on getting booed, though I'm not sure whether he really thought that the situation would turn out like it did. Pageants aren't like they used to be, and the MUO asks for quite a bit of money for a country to host, so it seems their options are limited.

In terms of the pageant being fixed, that's always a debate among pageant fans. When it comes to Miss Universe, it's always considered political. This is the first year in awhile where we've seen far fewer Latina delegates compared to delegates from Europe and Asia. If the Miss Universe pageant was owned by someone overseas, chances are that part of the world would be highly represented (I don't follow Miss World but that's a British owned pageant and I've heard European girls do very well in that system compared to other parts of the world). Miss USA is a powerhouse, and she has the resources and money that some other nations don't, along with a great team of directors to prepare her. It's like at Miss USA, you tend to see some of the same girls place year after year, while some states have never placed (Delaware) or haven't placed in 30+ years. I don't think it's political, favoritism, or rigging at Miss USA, but some of these ladies just have a better team to prepare them. And since 2000, the home delegate has only made the semi's two other times, in 2001 and 2002. In fact, it's not uncommon to see the home delegate left standing. Miss USA has also missed the cut in recent years, though all together they've missed making the semi's 3 times.

well at intl pageants sashes play a very strong role in choosing the finalistes. not so in local pageants (i.e miss usa, teen usa...).

imagine if 10 of the top 15 were from latin america even if they were deserving, people will scream Foul. 2 yrs ago in thailand the latin girls were very strong and easily 10 could have made top 15. and do you know, miss universe org hands pick 6 out of the 15. the judges picks 10 and MUO knocks 1 off the list.

I'm so angry at myself, I keep missing every single pageant! I love watching these with my mom, because she LOVEs pagents, and I like to sit down and just talk to her about it, cause we rarely do. Does anyone know if we can watch the pageant through the nbc website or the official miss universe website...?

    the talk of town.

Recent polls have shown a fifth of Americans can't locate the U.S. on a world map. Why do you think this is?

miss SC: "I personally believe that US Americans are unable to do so because some people out there in our nation don't have maps and that I believe that our education like such as South Africa and The Iraq everywhere like such as and I believe that they should our education over here in the US should help the US or should help South Africa and should help The Iraq and Asian countries so we will be able to build up our future for us."

LOL! I had the pageant on in the background while I was getting some things done around the house. The host looked like he was having a hard time keeping a straight face when she finished.
